In this lesson, you will learn the Zen Breathing technique from Yuki Shiina herself. You will start by working on your posture, and learning more about your natural standing and sitting positions. Yuki will then teach you the original breathing method written by Zen master Hakuin Ekaku in the 18th century, and help correct your breathing technique.

After the class you will then sit down to enjoy a cup of authentic matcha tea, prepared by Yuki Shiina herself. You will be able to share your experiences in a calm atmosphere, and discuss your own thoughts on health and wellbeing.

Yuki Shiina is an expert of breathing techniques, author, and the founder of Zen Kokyū.

Having suffered from physical and mental disorders for over 15 years, Yuki turned to traditional breathing techniques to alleviate her pain. Specifically, she studied a breathing method created by a well-known monk from the Edo period, Hakuin, and credits him with saving her life. Yuki was later inspired to combine Hakuin’s original writings with her own personal experiences, and created Zen Kokyū.

Yuki’s class was amazing! What was so special about her class was the fact that her teachings were so simple yet life changing. I loved her calm composure, her ability to share her personal journey and and ability to relate to my issues and pain. She really took the time to individually understand everyone’s body alignment and helped us understand everything step by step. I would love to do another class with her and urge anyone who think they need posture correction or suffers from pain to enroll in this class.

Learning about the importance of proper posture and breathing is invaluable. Yuki is knowledgeable beyond her years and her calm and gentle demeanor made the posture and breathing adjustments incredibly simple. This has been life changing!

Yuki radiates positivity and compassion Her class was one of my best experiences in Tokyo that I continuously look back to. I was also 30-minutes late because of my poor decision making on how to get to her studio. She didn't hold this against me and had the class go on for a bit longer.

I highly recommend this session to people who seek to enjoy their lives better. Through the meeting, we learned our natural standing and sitting postures, which comfort our bodies the most. We also got to learn about a secret breathing method, which I find very helpful. Both the stance and breathing techniques aim to comfort ourselves. We often tend to think that we “need to do something,” but perhaps we are just lost in the world of mass information. Yuki conveys goodwills through this.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our zen breathing experience with Yuki. She is knowledge and charming, and her studio space is clean and inviting.
