I (co-host) and my friend Leonid (host) will be waiting for our customers, then we will depart to a lookout point 112 meters above the Valley of the Sugar Mills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then we'll make our way to the what it used to be the family house of the Manaca Iznaga plantation, and head up its 45-meter tower for views of the area. We'll also see the original machine used to extract the sugarcane juice, which you'll get to taste. Afterwards, we'll explore an archaeological site where you will learn about the darker side of the region's history. This is where you'll see what was involved in sugar production, and where alcohol was made to produce rum. At the end of the tour a pottery work-shop.
Other things to note

I studied a degree in Tourism at the University, 12 years ago I live in Trinidad and I fell in love with his history and culture. I have been working as a guide for 8 years together with my friend Leonid and we love history. The Valley of the Sugar Mills is a World Heritage Site because of the importance of the sugarcane industry for the development of our city. We want to show everyone, what life was like in the colonial period and how it was approximately the production of sugarcane in the past.

I have to admit, this was the only experiences where I had expectations. When I read about it, I really thought I would visit somewhat modern factories (circa 19th century), but no. The experience was even better. The two 17-19th century sugar cane mills and factories were amazing. The level of knowledge and explanations were amazing. We spent an entire day learning about how sugar was cultivated and processed for making both sugar and rum. The most amazing thing was learning how self-sustaining these farms/factories were and how well designed people's lives were back then. Totaly recommending.

Really great tour of the sugar cane plantation and loved hearing the history behind it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and approachable for questions. It felt like a very unique experience that would be difficult to replicate. Would highly recommend as it would have been difficult to organise on our own. Thanks again!

We had a very interesting and well prepared tour with our guide in a very nice classic Dodge, visiting the scenic and historic sites of the Valley of the Sugar Mills. The guide was responsive to all of the questions we asked, and the final visit to the ceramics workshop was a nice touch in the end. We would certainly recommend this tour as one of the important things to see while visiting Trinidad.

We met Leonid on the 18th February and we had an amazing tour with him to the Sugar Plantations. Leonid has an excellent command of English and is very knowledgeable about the history of Trinidad and the sugar Plantations, plus Cuba’s national history, which was very enlightening and brought the places we visited to life. We strongly would recommend Leonid as guide and when we are back would certainly use him again. Leonid has a warm and approachable manner and very easy to talk too.

The tour through the sugar mill plantations was very insightful and the guide had a lot of knowledge about the history of the area and the importance of the sugar cane process in Cuba’s history, both good and bad.
