Starting at a location mutually convenient (I'll pick Archives Metro Station, subject to change) we'll walk and talk about the many beautiful monuments and how they relate to the history of both Washington, DC & the USA.

We'll walk 3-4 miles and we'll go to some out of the way places on the Mall and nearby. You'll learn about the origins of Washington, DC (the first great compromise between the North and the South, yes, even back then). We'll trace the weird history behind the Smithsonian ( James Smithson was a "bastard", literally, to British Royalty) and the Washington Monument (caught up in political intrigue, what a surprise!).

From the starting point to Capital Hill and the Supreme Court to the White House, over to Vietnam, Korea, and WWII memorials, and up the steps to the Lincoln, where we'll stand on the spot that Dr. Martin Luther King gave his "I have a dream" speech. Take pictures!

If the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom, so much the better, but we'll see the lovely Tidal Basin (where the trees are located) and see the Jefferson Memorial from standing near the new MLK memorial.
Other things to note
Tell me your comfort with walking and we can shorten or lengthen the distance.

Tempat yang akan Anda datangi

The famous memorials and the stories behind them. Did you know that the judge of the contest to pick Maya Lin for the Vietnam Memorial design was the architect behind the unique DC Metro Statuions' design?

That Lincoln sitting his memorial has each hand showing the sign language symbols for "A" & "L", and that the artist/sculpture had a deaf daughter? And that the new Martin Luther King statue was designed and chiseled by a Chinese sculptor?
