【In this tour】
Go to the knife museum to learn about histories of Japanese knives and see how Japanese kitchen knives are made. You'll be surprised by the number of knives there. Move to a knife shop to learn how to sharpen a knife and sharpen your knife. Also forge handles by yourself after learn from a professional. At the end of the tour, you get your own kitchen knife with your name on it. You'll get excited sharpening knives! If you sharpen knives regularly and correctly, you can use them for over 10 years.

3. Deba knife(for dressing a fish)
4. Yanagiba knife(for sashimi and sushi)

【Other cautions】
※Tour without sharpening knife costs ¥4,000 ( let me know before book)
※ Lefthand users pay ¥3,500 extra for knife #3 and #4 to the factory on site to make a left-handed knife

I've been doing volunteer guiding for three years in Osaka and Kyoto. I love eating, drinking, and cooking. When I prepare fish, especially sashimi (sliced raw fish) and vegetables, the taste depends on its freshness and how smoothly you cut the surface. So I always sharpen my knife first. We'll meet up in front of the East gate at Sakai station of Nankai line.
Go to a shrine to pray for your staying in Japan and making any kinds of wishes.
Walk to the knife museum displaying over 1,000 knives, and learn how the knives are made. Then we'll head to a knife factory to learn how to sharpen knives from a professional and actually sharpen a Japanese knife which you choose. Also fit a handle to the blade by yourself.

Thank you Yuji ! It was nice to meet you and learn about japanese knifes. The techniques used by the masters were great to see and it was interesting to practice with your family. I highly recommand this experience as it's quite unique and traditional.

This experience was very engaging. It was easy to get to the meeting place from the city. We learnt a lot about Japanese knives from clear masters of the craft. One had been working in the job for over 70 years! We are rating the experience 4 instead of 5 because when we went on the experience there were restrictions because of corona virus. This meant the knife museum was closed. This is obviously beyond anyone's control but instead of providing an alternative activity or providing some kind of partial refund, instead we started the experience 45 minutes later without doing the activity. Given the circumstances, this is unlikely to be an issue for people in the future.

Hands down one of my favourite experiences from my time in Japan. Yuji is a great host. He translates on the go effortlessly, and is friendly and welcoming. The visit and knife sharpening experiences itself was amazing. The knife makers are true craftspeople, and were not only great instructors but were so welcoming intro their workshop (and the knives were beautiful!). A very special experience, and my thanks to both Yuki and the workshop for their hospitality!

I had a great experience with Yuji. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. The variety and size of knives we saw in the museum were very interesting. The highlight, of course, was learning to sharpen knives in a knife shop owned by the same family for generations. It was an experience I could not have done on my own.

A wonderful experience. From the time we met Yuji we (2 keen cooks) were immediately comfortable. Yuji translated questions and answers flawlessly so conversation flowed as we learned the techniques of knife sharpening from an accomplished, patient and engaged 80+ master. Putting our own knife handles on with instructions from a serene 94year old was the icing on the cake. We are delighted with our new skill thanks to Yuji’s tour. The knife museum was also very interesting and Yuji was generous with tips for Sakai sightseeing and experiences.
