Yang akan Anda lakukan

There are many small specialty food stores loved by local people in downtown Tokyo. Why not find unique foodstuffs where local people shop—places that are never part of a usual sightseeing tour. We will shop together for foods and seasonal rare things in the Yamanashi. Then we will cook the pot of dashi—classic Japanese soup—in a hidden old private house. Enjoy friendly food and get to know Japan deeply like a local person.
Other things to note
Let me know if you are allergic to anything or don’t like some foods. And please come hungry.

I was born as a daughter of a family running a time-honored Japanese restaurant. I was raised in the cuisine business since childhood. I have licenses as a sushi master and others. My father manages restaurants and is also a hunter. Rare ingredients from the mountains are offered solely to our regular patrons as part of our secret menu. I will order these items for you from Yamanashi.

Tempat yang akan Anda datangi

We’ll get together in Sugamo—known for its deep color. Specialty food stores line the downtown street and backstreets. We’ll go to grocery stores that are critical for making dashi.

Meg gave my friends and I one of those amazing experiences that will be a lasting memory of my trip to Japan. Her hospitality and friendly nature was so welcoming that it didn't take long for us to feel comfortable and at ease. Participating in the cooking of a delicious traditional Japanese meal in a traditional Japanese home was a priceless experience and Meg was amazing.

Cooking with Meg was definitely a highlight of our time in Tokyo. Beginning with a market shop in Grandma's Paradise. She was a fantastic host and we loved the opportunity to help prepare a traditional meal, which was delicious and topped off with some sake and seasonal Japanese fruits at the end of the evening. Meg was very accommodating and it was obvious that she really wanted us to have an enjoyable, authentic experience.

My wife and I had a great time with Meg! Despite our last minute booking, Meg had everything ready and organized. There was no problem to switch to a seafood dinner to accommodate my wife who is vegetarian. The food was absolutely delicious. There were no generic sauces nor spices, instead we had a true gourmet experience. We started by shopping for the fresh ingredients. We participated in the kitchen preparation and cooking. I highly recommend, especially if you already enjoy to cook and want to learn some fundamentals about Japanese cooking!

We really enjoyed the hot pot cooking workshop with Meg. She has a deep knowledge of Japanese ingredients and cooking skill. She thought us what Umami is through video and scientific experiences. Then, we cooked together. We tried hot pot with Kimuchi and cheese and tomato to experiment how the Umami taste will develop. It was the best hot pot I've ever had!! This class is for someone wants to know the secret of Japanese Umami. Highly recommend!! 日本人でもあまり知らないうまみ成分について、色々な角度から学ぶことができ、食や素材を見直すきっかけになりました。一緒に作ったつみれ鍋は、お店で食べるものより100倍美味しかったです!また、冬にお邪魔したいです!

The experience with Meg was outstanding and exceeded my expectations every way! I highly recommend it to those looking to experience a more local flavor of Tokyo and learn about food from a very knowledgeable host. We began with a great tour of the area around Sugamo station, including sampling unique snacks from multiple shops - a great way to get a feel for the neighborhood. We then took a short walk to the house to cook our dinner themed on "umami". I really enjoyed being able to try the different types of dashi individually and tasting the different combinations of umami. Not only was the meal absolutely delicious, I learned a lot from the cooking and prep process as well! My tip for guests - ask a lot of questions! Meg is so knowledgeable about food in general, and also curious to learn from her guests. I really enjoyed learning about her interests and recommendations on everything from soy sauce (she says she had over ten types at home!) to local delicacies from her native Yamanashi. I hope to visit again in the winter to try a different dish!

Meg is someone you instantly feel comfortable with. She is easy-going, thoughtful and knowledgeable. The time we spent together was very relaxed but also stimulating. There were many great things about it: the location of Sugamo was characterful and the house had a very welcoming atmosphere. It was a great setting to learn about the principles of Umami, which we did through preparing hotpot together with Meg. The preparation was simple but all I can say that various important touches made it one of the most delicious meals I have had. The whole evening was really quite special.
