A circa 1950s rustic cabin that retains the flavor of decades gone by with an artsy twist. It is a place to relax, enjoy the beauty of the woods, lake and gardens, and take in the activities that the area has to offer - from paddling, bike and hiking trails to local art centers and farmers market. Artists, creative spirits, those looking for a place to slow down, connect with nature, who want simple accommodations and grounds with an enchanting feel, will enjoy Deerwood Cottage.
This rustic cabin is furnished with vintage and eclectic furnishings with original art. It was built in the early fifties. You will have the flavor of a bygone era. The bedrooms have curtains as doors which open into the small living room/dining area. The bathroom has a vintage claw foot bath tub. The kitchen is furnished with microwave, gas range, refrigerator, and basic cooking equipment. There is no AC and no insulation. A charming Jotul gas stove will take away any morning chill and there are electric fans for the heat of the day, when most everyone is outdoors or sitting on the screen porch or dock (where everyone seems to enjoy their morning coffee). WIFI access. Because this cabin is for seasonal use, our space is available for booking from May through September only.
Guests are welcome to swim, fish off the pier, use the fire pit lakeside, and use their kayaks or canoes in beautiful pristine Meta Lake. Pier is shared with us. Arrangements can be made in advance to have art studio access or to take a class for an additional charge.

I am an artist/ hand papermaker and my husband, Greg, is a carpenter. I also teach art classes for students of all ages in the community and at my studio on the premises. We are organic gardeners and grow our own food on our wooded property. I also am growing plants for natural dyeing. We support local farmers (I volunteer at a local CSA) and eating healthy food and having a lifestyle that is in harmony with nature is important to us.
We love to garden, bicycle, kayak and swim on our lake, and enjoy hosting friends and family. We are quiet, go to bed reasonably early, and appreciate visitors who respect our privacy. We will give you your space and respect your privacy and will do our best to help you enjoy your stay with us.
