Hello! I would like to invite you to come and experience living in an authentic Cretan dwelling. Here is some information about me and what I do.
I’m a professional artist.
My work involves scenic art for theatre, film and TV and I also create puppets for professional puppet companies and giant sculptural lanterns for festivals.
I work mainly in the UK but have been involved in projects internationally. In 2017 I was one of the specially selected team who created the Opening Ceremony of the European City of Culture in Aarhus Denmark.
I am currently based in Kissamos, Crete, creating several Lantern commissions and planning workshops for Giortes Rokkas, a two week arts festival culminating in a spectacular grand finale. A symphony orchestra plays to a huge audience seated on the hillside of Rokka, under the light of the August full moon. It is truly magical and not to be missed.
I am also writing my first novel at present and a collection of short stories.
I speak fluent English and Greek, some French and a little German. I can understand a bit of Dutch, having learned Afrikaans as a child, when I lived in South Africa for a few years.
I am sociable, friendly and easy going and also enjoy my own company. I spend a lot of time with my two dogs who live in a picturesque olive grove, in an eco shed made out of recycled materials. I spend many hours a day there with them, and I use the shed as a writing and painting studio.
I love swimming and chilling out on the beach, and enjoy cooking vegetarian food, listening to music and reading books. I also like renovating, upcycling and creating interesting living spaces. I adore olive trees, and try to take part in the olive harvest every year.
I have spent many years exploring Crete and will be able to give you good advice if needed about visiting places of interest, assisting with travel arrangements and can also provide guided excursions by arrangement.
