DUTCHTOWN is the largest community in St. Louis with over 18,000 households. For centuries known as the "Scrubby Dutch" locals who would always be scrubbing their front steps. There is eye catching architecture in the homes, church and shops. Over the last decade lots of changes are happening. Home prices are going up, boarded up buildings are now the home of unique shops and loads of revitalization happening. We are a neighborhood of an array of cultural, financial and economic folk
1 mile from highway 55 which connects to all major highways. Five generations have passed through our doors and after living on the second floor, where we raised our children, we have remodeled it and then moved to the first floor, where I was raised.
GUESTS OF THE DUTCHTOWN GEM MAY NOT HAVE GUESTS. If you are visiting friends/family, please do so off site. If the reservation is for 4, then only 4 are allowed here.
Several really great dining spots all within 5 minutes travel by car: Urban Eats, Feasting Fox, Iron Barley and Crusoe's are our favorites.
Within 20 minutes of St. Louis University and 25 minutes from the airport, home is awaiting your arrival. and TV, but no cable. DVD player and Wifi is available. Local calls only. No smoking, no pets. Let me know as much about your stay so I can help to make it stress free and enjoyable. We live downstairs so we would be able to answer any questions and ask that you be considerate of us BELOW you. There is a a gas grill and with advance request, you are welcomed to use it. I don't charge a cleaning fee and with your help I won't have to start charging one. We don't allow parties , loud music or anything illegal. So come on and settle in and enjoy your vacation and our home...See you soon! Please remember that we would appreciate it if you would park DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE HOUSE...Thank you..this way all the neighbors stay happy ..... GUESTS CAN NOT HAVE GUESTS!! No explanation needed. Plain and simple. Since we live downstairs from the GEM, we must insist that all children not run or jump. With an open floor plan, children like the fact that they can go in a circle. It truly sounds terrible and like our ceiling is falling. We trust that you will make sure the children do not run and jump. We appreciate and expect all house rules to be followed. This makes your stay enjoyable for you and us. Quiet time after 10:00 PM
Born and raised in the same house, raised our children here and moved to the first floor in 2010. Jim and I love to travel, trains have become my new love and recently took Amtrak from St. louis to Reno...most beautiful ride Colorado and Utah breathtaking. We've traveled to Italy, London, Prague to name a few. We are devout Green Bay Packer fans and love attending early season games and training camp. We have 2 amazing grown children, our daughter a ESOL teacher and our son a retired Army Aviator and 7 grandchildren, 2 local and the other 4 who currently live in Arkansas and 1 grandson in the Army.
I married the first boy I ever "fell in love" with at the age of 10 and met up 16 years later and married. Jim has worked for Fed Ex since it's inception and retired after 39 1/2 years Me....you name it, I've done it!! I've worked for a bookkeeper, salon, public relations consultant for an arts high school, founded a not for profit for artistic students, caretaker to seniors, janitor and an event planner. My proudest event was a 3 day celebration including a house party, evening dinner party with a master illusionist, bagpiper piping, and getting the birthday "girl", who was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan onto the field for the first pitch for a game between the Cards and the Cubs.. Davis Freese was the catcher for her and an amazing pitch right to him to celebrate her 100th birthday.
We love our neighborhood and hope you will too.
