Jean’s home gave us a warm and peaceful getaway for the weekend at Spence’s Bridge. Very private. Much bigger than we expected which was a great surprise. Her quick responses to messages and thoughtful suggestions like where to eat and hike in the area were much appreciated. You …

Jean's place is in a lovely small village, very quiet (except for the trains, which we loved) and calm. We really enjoyed the location and the space. It's very cozy and homey with all the things you need to make yourself comfortable. I am a chef and typically bring my own kit, bu…

This was such an unexpected gem, I cannot say enough good things. As a jumping off point into the wilds of the Thompson Plateau you couldn’t find a better spot. Jean was incredibly helpful and made us feel like we were visiting the home of a friend, someone who was as excited for…

Comfortable bed, fully equipted kitchen and good vibes (also thanks to the stereo provided with some CDs including Paul Simon collection). The pub is 5 min walk and is open also for lunch, the train is indeed noisy, but that's as described and didn't bother sleeping (for one of u…

This place is good if it’s listed at its cheaper price, without the cleaning fee included. It’s a great stopping point location but there isn’t much to do in the area. Still, to get off that road and have somewhere to sleep is great! The ease of check in and the bed were great…

Hi Gillian. Thanks for the detailed review. I always appreciate guests perspective and experience. Yeah. That system of Airbnb listing the "base price" is so confusing - even for me as a traveller on Airbnb. That base price is asked of us hosts - as the lowest we could go, not the current price. So unfortunately guests have to go one more step to find out the current price. And the airbnb system never shows the cleaning fee up front until guests go that one more step. It is a one time fee so my guests who stay 3 or 4 nights love the pricing, but for the stop over guests it can make for that extra step before they know what it will cost all in. Most of us who travel on airbnb listings just bite the bullet and jump through the hoops to get to the final price before making our booking. And I just have to say, hopefully not defensively ... Yikes - the shower is NOT for dogs! ... just to reassure future guests!!! Not sure what to do about how you felt it might be kind of dirty. Let me reassure you and others that we scrub and bleach (or vinegar) the shower area between guests, plus polish all the mirrors, and wax or oil the wood countertops, disinfect the toilet, wash the floor. Part of the cleaning fee. Maybe it is the painted red concrete floor with the painted frogs that makes it look unusual? But I totally get it - if you thought a dog was washed there then you would feel weird about cleanliness. And no dog lives in the house with me. I had a terrific dog years ago hence the dog door to the back yard. Only the odd guests arrives with their doggie. And great feedback about the door knob! I would never have known unless someone mentioned it as I don't close the door at night so never touch it. I can get that tightened up asap! Gla you found the labels useful. I was really unsure about doing that as it takes away from my homey feeling while I am living in my house and thought it might irritate some guests. But hearing that it was really helpful for you is very useful feedback. Here is a tip for you - as a traveller - if you think an overnight stay is priced a bit higher than you want to pay you can write your prospective host and suggest a price that would work for you. Often that arrangement is possible. As a Host - I don't mind the inquiry and sometimes have been able to make adjustments. It is always the cleaning fee that bumps the cost up for the traveller - especially if it is just a quick one night. Other hosts restrict their booking to a 2 night stay only and that keep the total price great for guests. But I like to accommodate the stopover people such as yourself 'cause it is great to give them a cosy whole house and kitchen and yards to book into, especially if they have driven the whole day, and face another full day travel to their destination. Anyhoo - thanks for staying - and do try again next time!
