Humble, snug, homey. Granny chic. Great shower, very hot water, reliable wifi. Built into the slope of Greylock. We are a 5 minute walk to MoCA by footpath.
Sweeping views of downtown North Adams, very small yard. In the Winter we allow small, well behaved, supervised pets. See listing.
One full bed, one twin bed. 2 bedrooms. 3 adults maximum.
All communication goes through Airbnb, thanks. We ask that all guests send us a message on the Airbnb app when they are 90 minutes away from arrival.
Homey and cozy, unpretentious.
Functional and meticulously clean.
Please note, we like a lot of hot water, so the temperature on the hot water tank is set quite high. Children and/or pets must either be very well supervised, or very well behaved.
The apartment has two porches, one open and one enclosed. Both are large, welcoming, comfortable spaces, perfect for breakfast in the open air or a glass of wine in the evening. It is possible to use the outdoor porch in the Winter but it is cold. There is an indoor porch with blankets for those who wish to use it.
Do not light anything in the suite. Nope - no fire. No vaping inside the apartment either.
Please leave the furniture as you found it.
The apartment is traditional, every room is its own space. Ideal for a couple with one, school aged, child or two friends traveling together.
We are not suited to wedding guests or hunting parties. No parties.
Old-school cable TV and DVD player with a few, off-beat movies on offer.
You have the apartment to yourself, everything in it is there for you to enjoy. Games, popcorn maker, blender, blankets, pillows, bathtub, bluetooth speaker, tea, spices. They are there for you. The food we leave for your use is the best on offer in this region, usually local and organic. Let us know if you have any food allergies.
We are moving away from conventional dairy products. If you are allergic to nuts, it's really important that you let us know about that before you arrive.
Access is via a steep, grassy path. Steep. The yard is not fenced. If you choose to bring a pet, you must take responsibility for supervising your furry family member at all times. We charge a $50 fee for any poop-scooping duties we're left with. That's $50 per pile. Please put your scooped poop in a plastic bag inside the galvanized tin garbage can on the back, outdoor deck. We do not provide poop-bags. BYOPB.
There is also a shared laundry room with washer, dryer, detergent, ironing board and iron adjacent to the suite - you are welcome to use it.
Dogs are okay but if they're not in the apartment they must be on a leash. There's an off-leash park in town, ask us and we'll give you directions. The river, Noel Field and a variety of other trails and fields are also close by.
Wildlife sometimes populates the yard. A bachelor bunny makes his (her?) home under the porch. This is yet another reason why your dog must be **very closely supervised**** We love our bunny like you love your dog, the difference being, our bunny is a wild bunny. Keep dog on leash.
Do not scare our bunny. This is his home, he has a right to feel safe here.
Cats must remain indoors, we also have wild birds who have made their home here. They also need to feel safe.
Skunks live nearby and sometimes wander through the yard, same goes for possums. We are always really happy to see them. They are indicators of a balanced biosystem. They are valued here and - well, same as the bunny and the birds. We love them, be nice to them.
There are bobcats and bears in the neighborhood. We are on the edge of the forest, please respect the wildlife and give them their space. They are valued neighbors.
In the Winter, we're around a lot. We'll be upstairs in one of the two other suites in the house, usually working. When we are not in the house, we're at our studio at the Eclipse Mill, just a message away.

After check-in, minimal.
Basically, you're not going to see us at all except in passing. We give our guests their space.
Send us a message when you are 90 minutes away from arriving. Plans tend to change before that point ad cell reception is very poor after that point - please try to keep communication easy. It is entirely possible, probably even likely, that your phone will not work within an hour's radius of North Adams. We have done this lots of times, the 90 minute message saves everyone, guest and host, a lot of irritation.
We put a great deal of thought, time and effort into every guest's experience so the more we know about your interests and tastes the better your experience will be.
We use digital locks, there are no keys. We will give you a passcode on the day of your arrival.
Asking for keys or early check-in or writing to us four hours before you arrive to say when you're going to arrive (which always, always changes when you're en-route) and assuming that's the same thing as the 90 minute heads-up we request - well doing those things only serve to tell me someone who really does not care how their actions effect anyone else is coming to our house. I find it really hard to be nice to those people. They belong in a hotel.
We've spent a lot of time on this apartment, on writing this listing, all of it. And we try to make this the very best experience possible for every one of our guests. Please remember, after 200 visits, none of this is dumb luck.

There are two ways to get to the Summit of Mt. Greylock, one is directly behind the house. If you're a Pottermore fan, particularly Pukwudgie House, this is your place.
I'm not kidding when I say we're humble. We're proud of that. Our house has everything you need and nothing more.
We are really tired of being the bargain "gem" that affluent people choose for their quaint Berkshire getaways. It's always awkward and although we know you think we look like we've got stuff in common. We really don't. I wince when I think about those people leaving reviews on our profile - like draws like, after all.
We're lifelong freelancers, we're committed to sustainable design. Newer is never better in our book. We have bought two pieces of new furniture in our entire lives, one is the bed in the bedroom of this suite.
We're trying to create a space for people who live as we've lived, so they can travel freely without having to risk eviction when they return to their little apartment in the city. We would love to see more of those people for a week at a time or longer, contact us if that's you. Sometimes we can work something out.
However, if you're from Westchester, or Nyack, or Arlington or some other high-toned suburb and you think you're being down-to-earth, youthful, and sensible by choosing to stay at a humble Airbnb apartment, trust me, you won't like us and we won't like you. Pick a place in Williamstown. They are your people, your flock, your tribe - go to them. They will love you.
If you pulled yourself through school on peanut butter sandwiches and free nights at the museum, if you find yourself giving half your time and all your heart to volunteering, if you've stopped buying new clothes because you can't bear the load fast fashion places on the planet, if you've ever cleaned up a beach, spent your Thanksgiving delivering food to people who have recently come in off the streets or talked to your Congressional representative every day about DACA or Universal health care, you are the reason we're trying to keep our amenities up and our prices down. You belong here.
Communication with us is always through the Airbnb platform, no exceptions.
We require a 90 minute heads-up message from you, 90 minutes before you arrive at the house. We do not need to know when you plan to arrive or why you're coming later than anticipated - we only need that heads-up message.
Check in is after 4:00 p.m. No earlier.
Leave the furniture where it is.
(Believe me, I will notice.)
Leave the garden alone.
It may look messy or neglected to you but it is exactly as we want it to be. There are reasons for everything, leave it alone. You are welcome to sit there but do not attempt to participate in the garden's life cycle, that includes harvesting and most emphatically includes pest control.
Leave the beds unmade when you go and send us a message when you leave, unless it's before 9:00 a.m. - then you can send it after you leave. Sheets will not fit into the bathroom hamper, we don't want them on the floor and it is not necessary for you to make a bed we're just going to strip and change anyway.
If your child is over 10 years old, we will probably be a good fit, otherwise - no.
No parties, no wedding guests. No "guys weekends."
No flames of any kind.
Hi and welcome to North Adams!
Stephanie here : I first signed up on AirBnB when I was looking for a place in Austin for a visit in 2009. Never did manage to connect but had the chance to try again on our honeymoon in 2012. In 2014 we decided to start hosting. We love it!
We are collectively; a writer from Canada married to an American cinema verite filmmaker/photographer who also works in community access television, among other things. Our interests are wide and varied; they include local food, film, the visual and performing arts and permaculture.
When we're on vacation, we enjoy spending our time alone together the most so we tend to be respectful of other people's privacy. We can be chatty but we really do prefer to be off adventuring on our own.
Our favorite travel destination is anywhere we haven't been. We're particularly fond of road trips. We like to explore.
Just one thing more - we are both lifelong non-smokers and we're pretty intolerant when it comes to smoking. We just don't want to be around it at all, not in any way.
