Shelt Gill is a comfortable, fully equipped holiday home sleeping 4 or 5 in two downstairs bedrooms. On the first floor there is a spacious lounge / dining room with ancient timbers and a view over Lake Coniston. £390 per week low season to £640 pw
The cottage is a lovely place for walking, going to pubs - sitting on the window seat reading or looking out over Lake Coniston in all its moods.
Shelt Gill is fully equipped with everything a cottage should have for eating, sleeping, keeping warm and having fun. The one thing you need to bring with you is bed linen and towels. There are lots of duvets, blankets and pillows for one double and up to three single beds, but you do need to bring your own sheets (or quilt covers) and pillow cases.

Before you arrive we shall tell you where to find the keys, and a tea tray should be waiting for you, but we do not normally see quests. We have a caretaker locally should an emergency arise by any remote chance.
Please note the cottage is now no smoking, you can of course smoke in the garden.
In 1971 my grandma had the vision to see that a derelict old farm building could be turned into a lovely holiday home overlooking Lake Coniston. She always felt it was important for it to be used for the benefit of the local economy, so she started letting it out when she wasn't taking her own holidays there. My mum took over the holiday lettings when my older brother was born 1977 and this year my wife and I took it on, finally giving her a well-deserved rest after 39 years. We live in London and it has always depended on a wonderful series of caretakers to keep the cottage in an amazing condition for visitors. It is still a place for family holidays - we go up with our little dog Bear, my brother goes whenever he's in the country, my mum and dad go whenever possible, and lots of our pals take their families up there.
