Idyllic, private home within its own garden of date and palm trees. This home is built in the local style with local materials and is very private and cozy. It lies at the foot of mystical Mount Dakrour within a small hamlet, about 4 km from the lively centre of Siwa town which has around 30,000 inhabitants. In the immediate vicinity there is the ritual site of the Sufi Order, and only 10 minutes walk away through shady palm groves you`ll find the famous Cleopatra springs, where you can take a refreshing dip in the clear spring water renowned for its healing powers, or chill out with a sweet Berber style tea or fresh mango juice in the adjoining cafe. For glorious sunsets you climb to the Gebel Dakrour where the view extends far into the sand dunes of the Sahara. In the mountains there are some ancient tombs.
The property is suitable for people who seek peace and a quiet retreat with guaranteed sunshine. Recently a writer has stayed here for nearly 2 months to finish a novel. The house is also perfect for those seeking tranquility to meditate, yoga, tai chi, etc. or artists, painters, photographers or other creatives. The house has also hosted many families, children in particular love to explore the desert oasis and are spoiled rotten by the local Siwis who will treat them like royal guests.
The house has one bedroom with a double bed, a living room with traditional embroidered cushions, a bathroom with spring-fed hot water, and a small kitchen with two gas burners. There is an internal courtyard with four chairs and a palm tree table for enjoying the clear, starry nights, which has a traditional fireplace. A small amount of wood is provided on arrival, and more can be easily purchased on request. The house is surrounded by its own, large, walled garden where you can pick dates and are welcome to have barbecues. The home is very private and secluded but you simply need to step outside the perimeter wall to feel part of every-day village life.
In addition, several expats have chosen to make Siwa their home and you are likely to rub shoulders with artists, designers and museum curators from Europe when doing your shopping or having a mint tea in town.
To explore the oasis, a car and driver are available for a very reasonable price. There is also one bicycle included with the house for the short 30 minute cycle into town, with more bikes available to rent in Siwa.
Siwa itself has some excellent restaurants with traditional Siwi cooking, however guests may also choose to have a local cook prepare some delicious meals to be delivered to them at home. Laundry service can also be arranged by the local ladies.
