We welcome and orient you to the house. If you like, we can help you get to know Brattleboro -- where to eat, where to hike/swim/ski/golf and do other active things, where to shop, and what to see. Most of the time you'll be on your own.

We both teach during the school year. Year round we offer classes in tai chi and Chinese language on site on an individualized basis. We also plan and coordinate local Asian culture events such as Lunar New Year and Mid Autumn Moon Festival, We occasionally have events related to exhibitions or presentations under the auspices of our art gallery. Mt Snow is 25 miles away, Stratton is 38 miles - both along good road all the way. Route 9 in the winter is always the first to get cleared among roads around here, driveway/parking area gets plowed promptly, so our place is easy in or out year round.
No smoking on the premises. No excessive drinking. No pets. Treat the place and the furnishings with care. Key drop is in the kitchen. Put books back in the same general area where found or leave out and we'll put them back. Any questions about what to do, please ask us - try texting, phone message or email (contact info provided once you are booked.)

We love art, making art, and making food as art. We enjoy Chinese wellness routines and exercises. We own and run C.X. Silver Gallery Fine Art (cxsilvergallery) and Cai's Dim Sum Teahouse and Catering (dimsumvt) open by appointment year round. Cai is an artist, chef-owner of the catering and gallery, tai chi master, exhibition curator, and teacher of Chinese and art. Cai offers lessons in tai chi, painting, Chinese calligraphy and brushwork, and Chinese cooking. Adam is an arts administrator/manager, sous-chef/front-of-house for the catering and gallery, editor/publisher for gallery publications, webmaster, and accountant. Adam provides tutoring and coaching in school subjects and college applications. Our daughter and son are both in colleges based in Chicago. We've been in Brattleboro for a dozen years and have loved raising our kids here. Adam and Cai met in China 29 years ago while Adam was on a Watson Fellowship. Besides China, Adam has lived in England and India, and travelled elsewhere in Europe and Asia. The first floor is the art gallery and center for catering. The second floor is our residence. The third floor is the self-contained apartment featuring an eat-in kitchen, a bathroom shared by guests, and three bedrooms. The building is from the 1880s and the height of the doorframes will be limited for those over 6'1" - the shower area is quite cozy, located as it is under the eaves. Out back, there is a secluded garden. The building is on Route 9.
