My self-contained guestroom is a cozy place to spend a few days while enjoying the peaceful surroundings on Gotland during fall and winter. All the comforts of home with WiFi, TV/DVD, tiled shower/WC, and a kitchenette for light meals. Comfy beds!
A self-contained double bedroom on the second floor of our home with separate entry, kitchenette, private shower&WC and your own balcony for morning sunshine. The hillside with a multitude of wild spring flowers amongst oaks and hazels is the view from your balcony! The stone wall defining the farmstead dates from the early 1800s.
Our country home has a panoramic view to the south and west overlooking fields and meadows towards Fardume Lake – a designated bird sanctuary. The nearby marshes, grass and hedgerows provide a perfect haven for a multitude of birds and other wildlife like foxes, hares and even the occasional roe deer. Thrill to the call of cranes and geese while enjoying the magnificent sunsets with the tower of medieval Hellvi church silhouetted in the distance.
The Gotlandic countryside will delight you with its spring flowers, beginning with hepatica and wood anemones in April and a crescendo of blooms reaching their peak with over 35 species of orchids in May and June. Enjoy lovely sunny summer days and wonderful autumn colours! Biking is a pleasure on Gotland with rolling fields and forest scenery, roadsides full of wildflowers and small fishing hamlets on stony coasts. I have a collection of vintage bikes that will allow you to explore the local haunts. Avonlea lies near the coast (about 1 km to Valleviken with sandy shallow beach, harbour and restaurant), Rute Stone-oven Bakery and grocery stores in Fårösund (15 km) bike rentals and ferry to Fårö, and Lärbro (10 km) that also has a superb greengrocer. There are many lovely sandy beaches in the neighbourhood as well as magnificent stonestack fields, cafés and a bakery.
I’ll be happy to tell you about all the interesting things you can see on walks/rides in the neighbourhood. Take a walk on the many forest trails or across the meadow to the bird-watching platform at the lake. It's a bird-watcher's paradise!
Bed & Breakfast is an option for those renting our bedroom suite with breakfast served in our dining room or enclosed sun porch. Or else I’ll stock your fridge with breakfast makings and an evening snack if requested at time of booking – special for bird watchers and late night ferry arrivals! Let me know if you require bed linens and towels (extra 10Euro/ person)

I am pleased to welcome my guests and provide information on local sights and activities as well as lending bicycles for use in the neighbourhood. I will most likely be at home during the time I have guests. I also offer trail riding for experienced riders on my trusty Connemara ponies!
I am a Canadian who's lived on the beautiful island of Gotland for the past 39 years. Alongside running my Bed and Breakfast I teach English as a home language and also work as a free-lance translator from Swedish to English. My passion is my Connemara ponies and horseback-riding. I am happy to offer assistance to foreign guests so that they can discover the treasures Gotland has on offer: historical, scenic and cultural. My home is my castle and it is a pleasure to share the lovely peaceful pastoral scenery here at Avonlea with my visitors.
