The Blue Hill Heritage Trust has added many new hiking trails on the peninsula. Want to get on the water? Charter a sailboat at Buck's Harbor Marine for a day on Eggemoggin Reach or rent kayaks to paddle on one of our many local bays, or take the mail boat to Isle au Haut (part of Acadia Natn'l Park) for a hike, or swim in the local, and warmish, Walker Pond. Is art your thing? Plan a day trip to Deer Isle, Stonington, or Blue Hill to check out the impressive, local art scene. The Reversing Falls Sanctuary offers art openings and other events. Like music? World famous Kneisal Hall Music School in Blue Hill hosts fabulous classical concerts throughout the summer; Flash in the Pan Steel Drum Band plays at the Blue Hill town park most Monday evenings (overlooking Blue Hill harbor); check out the Stonington Opera House for their repertoire of all kinds of performances; live music Tues. nights at Methodist Church in Buck's Harbor; open mic at Tinderhearth. Are you a Foodie? Pick up your bread ( croissants, tarts, cookies, pizza and more!) at our local Tinderhearth Bakery, and your greens at the Brooksville Farmer's Market on Tuesdays just above Buck's Harbor Market. David's Folly Farm will sell you farm fresh meat and Buck's Harbor Market (5 minutes away) has just about everything else for dinner. O yes, and, of course, don't forget you can buy lobsters at Northern Bay Market, live or cooked and ready to go! Then, come back to Waterview Cottage and watch the sun as it sets over Smith Cove. And, great, local restaurants abound - see the local Weekly Packet for more info. There's so much more to do – play golf, tennis, visit pottery studios, enjoy raw oysters fresh from the local (and world famous) Bagaduce River Oyster Farm, go bird watching, or visit the pioneering “back-to-the-land" Good Life Center 7 miles away in Cape Rosier. Oh! I forgot to mention blueberry pie a la mode. You'll just have to come explore for yourself! Welcome!
We love the peace and quiet.

A small one-room cabin with loft sleeping area on beautiful Cape Rosier. A comfortable space, while still a work in progress. Located a 2 minute walk from our shorefront on Horseshoe Cove, one of the most beautiful coves in Maine according to the Cruising Guide to New England---it opens out to the islands of East Penobscot Bay. Solar boat-type shower. Wood stove for cool evenings. Swim off our pocket beach or dock. Great hiking. The best part is you can do it all without getting in your car.
Our one room antique filled cabin in a private section of our boathouse has it's own second level sleeping loft with regular stairway access--no ladder. There's now a new Jotul wood stove for those cool Fall evenings, and we provide the firewood. Swim off our pocket beach or dock or body surf the tidal rapids on the incoming tide! Bring your kayak or canoe and use our pier & float. Kayak, canoe, paddle board & bike rentals are available and they deliver to our property. With wildlife sanctuaries on 2 sides of us there are plenty of wilderness trails to explore. See bald eagles, osprey and other birds in abundance. You may spot a seal in the cove or a beaver in Fresh Pond in Holbrook Island Sanctuary across the road. Bring your bike, there's great cycling on Cape Rosier. Cabin sleeps 2 in a queen sized real bed on second floor loft. Cabin has electricity and small fridge and running cold water only at the sink. There is also a water faucet just outside the boathouse. There is a 2 burner propane gas cooktop. The outhouse is a short walk away. There's a solar boat-type shower and enclosure outside to rinse off after a swim. We provide all linens, pots & pans & cooking & eating utensils. We have a charcoal grill near our house guests are free to use. Dogs are welcome. Rough it style in the coastal Maine woods.
Cape Rosier is wooded and beautiful with many coves &n beaches. The Holbrook Island Sanctuary is almost 2,000 acres of preserved land with lots of hiking trails. The park headquarters has 2 nice beaches and a picnic area with tables & grills. There is also a dock area to launch a trip out to Holbrook Island. The towns of Blue Hill, Castine & Stonington are nearby, and Acadia National Park is a little over an hour away. Bucks Harbor Market & Bucks Cafe are 10 minutes away in South Brooksville (both are closed in the winter).

This is a one of a kind waterfront home situated in Harborside, Maine. If you appreciate nature in its purest form, gazing at the endless bright stars, and the fresh breeze of the ocean air coming in your bedroom window, this is truly the perfect place for you and your family. With easy access to places for hiking, kayaking, swimming or just relaxing, it is the perfect spot for a get-away for those who are looking for a seasonal home experience without the fussiness of fancy/new accommodations.
There are two floors to this old farmhouse, which was my childhood home. The layout is funky, but my family loves the time we spend together here. There is no phone or WIFI. We enjoy the CD player, VCR, DVD, old board games and puzzles (some of which even have all their pieces!). The kitchen has an electric stove, toaster oven, microwave and coffee maker. Many spices and staples are provided. There are ample kitchen supplies such as pots, pans, dishes and utensils . The layout of bedrooms is great for a close family as all the bedrooms are connected. The bathroom has a standup shower and ample drawers for personal products.
Harborside is a remote neighborhood that hosts a mix of natives and long-time summer visitors. Most people return year after year. It is 15 minutes from a convenience store or gas station and 30 minutes from a full supermarket. We love being disconnected from the outside world!

Please note: bathroom facilities have a wash area, solar shower with claw foot tub, and outside porta potty. Be lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean waves. You will love it here!
The 800 sq. ft., one-room cottage will bring you back to holidays of yesteryear! There are steps down the hill to get to the cottage with an open view of the bay. By day, enjoy the myriad of activities indoors and out; in the evenings, read by the light of the lanterns and old fireplace. (We kindly ask that you bring Duraflame logs only).

Dippy Inn is an early 1900's cottage with western views of Penobscot Bay and Islesboro. Dippy is located in the village of Harborside in the town of Brooksville, Maine. Dippy offers all the summertime benefits of rural coastal Maine where the passing of a single car is a grand “event.” This vintage retreat is within easy walking distance to the waterfront as well as the state owned Holbrook Island Sanctuary known for its fine hiking trails, kayaking, and double beach.
This cottage home in Harborside, Maine, includes a west facing deck accessed through a sliding door from the kitchen/dining area with views of Islesboro and Penobscot Bay. The east facing front porch has an assortment of lounge chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with a four burner electric stove with oven/broiler, refrigerator with freezer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and dishwasher. There is great drinking water from the tap. The large dining table can be expanded to seat ten. The living room downstairs has a flatscreen TV with an HDMI cord for the DVD player and two networks (CBS & PBS) available as well as a sofa, several chairs, and a fireplace insert. The sitting/game room upstairs has an ocean view. There are two bathrooms, each with a toilet, vanity sink, and shower. There is a washer and dryer in the downstairs bathroom. There are five bedrooms, one downstairs and four upstairs with three full beds and two queens. Bedding, blankets, towels, and pillows included. Verizon cell phone service is good but the coverage of other carriers is spotty. The closest reliable internet and phone service is the town hall/library/volunteer fire department about four miles away.
1.5 hours from Bangor and its airport and bus facilities, and 3 hours from the greater Portland area, Dippy Inn is within easy walking distance of the state owned Holbrook Island Sanctuary known for its fine hiking trails, kayaking, and double beach. Scott and Helen Nearing’s Good Life Center is a scant two mile walk down the road in the other direction. Buck’s Harbor Market (previously known as Condon’s store in Robert McCluskey’s book One Morning In Maine) is open seasonally in South Brooksville about seven miles from Dippy. It is a half hour by car from Blue Hill to the closest full service community with fine shops, art galleries, restaurants, a supermarket, and a hospital. Deer Isle and Stonington are one hour away, as is Ellsworth (gateway to Acadia National Park). It takes about 1.5 hours to get to the park itself.

Tiny double room/shared bath, available July & August only. we begin taking reservations on May 1, 2020. 1850 farmhouse in the quiet "Valley of Stars" - a very rural stretch of coastal land tucked away on the Brooksville peninsula. A mile to the nearest beach by a serene bay. A relaxed, lived-in home welcoming unfussy guests & a good starting point for exploring the coast. Ocean air, abundant wildlife, night skies crammed with stars. 1 hour to Acadia, 20 minutes to Blue Hill.
We have four guest rooms, two with private baths, each room has a separate listing. About this room: This listing is for the Blue Room. It is on the second floor and shares a bathroom. It is our smallest guest room, sweet and cozy. It does not have a closet but has three big, built-in drawers. It has one window facing due west which gets lots of afternoon sunlight. Our humble farmhouse, built in 1850, is plain, solid and simple. The ceilings are low, the floorboards creak. We love it! The Iyengar Yoga Center is adjacent to the house.
Our quiet corner of Brooksville is known locally as "The Valley of Stars" due to the stunning beauty of our night skies. The Ocean Our nearest cove is one mile from the house - a peaceful walk through rolling meadows and quiet woods. From the beach you can see the Bagaduce River emptying out into the ocean, and the coastal village of Castine, directly across the water.. Our Community Cape Rosier, here in Brooksville, is home to the gorgeous Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park (first class hiking) and the Good Life Center, established in the 1950's by Helen and Scott Nearing, whose work was a seminal influence on the organic farming movement in the United States. Our next door neighbors, Tinder Hearth Bakery, occupy another dear old farmhouse, a 2 minute walk from here. They bake wood-fired, organic sourdough bread and in summer host a monthly Open Mic which draws all levels of performers from near and far. During the summer months they offer Pizza Nights twice a week, when you can socialize with the locals and summer visitors. Brooksville's "downtown" is the tiny hamlet of Buck's Harbor. It has a deep, safe harbor, a marina, Yacht Club, general store with a little cafe at the back, a weekly farmers market on Tuesdays from May through October and a fine dining restaurant. Brooksville's Topography Brooksville is bounded on the west by the Penobscot Bay, on the north and east by the Bagaduce River (a tidal estuary), and on the south by the famous sailing waters of Eggemoggin Reach. It is nearly an island, with just two slim land bridges to the rest of the mainland, and 54 miles of shoreline. It has a protected, insular quality which summer visitors as well as year round residents cherish.. Swimming, Sailing, Kayaking, Cycling... Beaches here are abundant due to the endless coves, bays, inlets and islands that make up Brooksville's wild and beautiful coastline. Ocean swimming, kayaking and sailing are nearby, as well as many fresh water lakes and ponds. Brooksville has Walker Pond, a 7 mile fresh water pond with public swimming and a boat launch. Visitors often go kayaking in the ocean and along the Bagaduce River, and many of our guests come up to cycle the winding roads (there are hills!). Almost everyone visits Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor at some point during their stay. More Things to Do on the Peninsula The coastal village of Blue Hill is a 20 minute drive from the house. It has shops, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, a supermarket, etc. On summer nights the Blue Hill Waterfront Town Park hosts street dances under the stars with Flash in the Pans, the area's long-standing community steel drum band.. The area is also home to the chamber music venue Kneisal Hall, the Stonington Opera House and the Grand Auditorium, featuring international artists in everything from Actors Equity Shakespeare productions to live classical, folk, jazz, rock, and world music performances.

Spacious home on Cape Rosier’s Orr Cove, with spectacular views to the west of Penobscot Bay and Maine’s unique rugged coast. An ideal location for seaside activities, where families can enjoy picnics and bonfires on the beach, kids can search for starfish and sand dollars, and adventurers can set off in kayaks to explore the coast and nearby islands.
The house is owned by four brothers and their families. It was built in the 1960’s by our parents who had fallen in love with the Maine coast and discovered Orr Cove on Cape Rosier to be the perfect location. The property has extensive ocean frontage as well as 110 acres of woodland. Our parents built a semi-traditional Cape Cod, which blends with other houses in the area, and yet is modern and spacious within. Later they added a barn using wood harvested from our forest. This includes a garage, a greenhouse and an apartment on the second floor. Our property is now under a land conservation easement with the Blue Hill Heritage Trust, protecting it from future development. The house itself features a living room with a large stone fireplace, cathedral ceilings, and two-story picture windows overlooking the pond to the south. Also on the first floor is a dining room with wood stove, a sitting area facing Orr Cove, and a well-equipped kitchen. The master bedroom is on the first floor. On the second floor there are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with two twin beds. Downstairs, on the basement level but above ground, there is a large sunny room overlooking the pond. The pond room couch converts into a wide, comfortable bed, providing guests with a spacious fourth bedroom. There is one full and one half bathroom on the first floor, a ¾ bathroom on the second floor and laundry facilities in the basement. Guests may also use the barn apartment. This has two twin beds and a set of bunkbeds, a basic kitchen with dining area, and a ¾ bathroom. The house can comfortably sleep 8 people and the barn apartment 4 more. The house has WiFi (modest bandwidth) and a library of vintage DVD and VHS tapes that can be played on the TV (also modest size) in the living room. Due to the remoteness of this location we do not have cable or other means for receiving live TV broadcasts. There are collections of toys for children as well as games, puzzles and books for guests of all ages. The house overlooks the bay and is situated 200 feet from the shore. While Harborside Road passes between the house and the shore, traffic is very light and does not disrupt the sense of solitude or easy access to the cove. Guests can sit in the front yard or on the beach and watch schooners and lobster boats in the bay, or can gather on the back deck for a barbecue. Orr Cove is a unique place. It remains largely pristine, with rock ledges on the north and south sides, topped by spruce trees with branches draped in moss. At high tide the beach consists of areas of cobblestones with scattered boulders and areas of sand. But as the tide goes out, a large, gently sloping and mostly sand beach is exposed which extends well out from the shore. Children can safely wade and search for ocean treasures, such as crabs, mussels, starfish and sand dollars. The beach can be used for swimming as well, though the water is cold. It’s best to swim on a sunny day as the tide comes in over the warm sand. Families can set up our fire pit or build a bonfire on the beach for a picnic. Adventurers can set off in kayaks to explore the coast and visit islands. Everyone can marvel at the magnificent sunsets over the bay and the Camden Hills beyond, while watching eagles and osprey circle above. The pond, just south of the house, has a platform with ladder. Our family enjoys using this for swimming and small boats. (It is warmer than the ocean, though a bit muddy on the bottom). There is an extensive network of marked trails in the 110 acres of woods behind the house. Maps are provided with other guest information.
There are many unique points of interest to visitors in our neighborhood, on Cape Rosier itself, around the Blue Hill Peninsula, and somewhat further “down east” along the Maine coast. We share Orr Cove with the Nearing’s Good Life Center, our neighbor to the south. Just over half a mile further south is the Four Seasons Farm, a pioneer in organic farming. The quaint village of Harborside, noted for its Fourth of July parade and celebration, is a mile and a half to our north. A further half mile to the north is the Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park. Holbrook Island itself is a short paddle off shore, and the park includes extensive woodlands on the mainland as well. The park has well-maintained trails, picnic areas on the beach and docks for launching small boats. The nearest convenience store and bakery is the charming Bucks Harbor Market, just off Cape Rosier, a 15-minute drive away. Three nearby towns are very much worth a visit: Blue Hill, on the east side of Blue Hill Peninsula, a 35-minute drive, Castine, quite close to the north, but requiring a drive of about 45 minutes around the Bagaduce River inlet, and Stonington, to the south on Deer Isle, about 50 minutes away. Blue Hill has excellent classical music performances through the summer at Kneisel Hall and there’s the must-see Blue Hill Fair during the first week of September. Castine has the Maine Maritime Academy as well as museums relating to early American history. Stonington is admired for its active harbor used by fishing and lobster boats. It also has an opera house! The nearest town with many stores, even malls, is Ellsworth, about a 55-minute drive. The main attraction for many visitors to down east Maine is Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. This is about an hour and a half drive from Cape Rosier. (Best to leave early to avoid heavy traffic to the park later in the morning.) Closer to Cape Rosier, much less visited but very rewarding, is Isle au Haut. This lovely island, much of which is actually part of Acadia National Park, can be reached by mail boat from Stonington. The island features many strikingly picturesque bays and rocky headlands, which can be explored in a day’s hike along well-maintained trails.

The waterfront here is one of the best in Maine. Spectacular sunsets, panoramic views and part of the farm the Boat House is as special and offers a truly Maine experience. Tinder Hearth, Avenger Yoga and David's Folly Farm are on our Road. On a Wharf, the same used for hundreds of years, small boats and fishermen launch from here, reminding us if all the years when the large clipper ships sailed to ports throughout the world. Please look at our other property to see how gorgeous it is here and come see us this year! 2015 review of our Cabin A magical coastal retreat in the heart of Down East Maine. Our family (5) had a wonderful time at Dick and Carol's saltwater farm. The house is rustic and charming, the yard is big and beautiful, the dogs are friendly, the geese are loud, the chickens wake up early, the sun seems to linger forever, the sea appears at the end of the old dirt path and the beach house seems to float along the seashore. If you are considering a trip to Maine and really want to experience Down East Maine, book this lovely cottage. Acadia, Blue Hill and Stonington are close by. As are several great food spots -- the apple tree in the front yard, the bakery down the street, Millbrook Company, Bagaduce Lunch, The Fish Net. The beach is typical Maine, but the beach house is something special -- nothing fancy, but a wonderful patch of green grass along the blue sea. The house is rustic, but in the best possible way. Everything you need is here, including several large lobster pots, an endless supply of great movies on VHS and a quiet back porch. Finally, Carol and Dick are wonderful hosts. Warm, welcoming, truly happy to have guests at their house. If you love Airbnb, you will love this house. Book it, enjoy it, don't tell anyone (else).

The ceilings are low, the floorboards creak. We love it! The Iyengar Yoga Center occupies a wing of the house.
The Ocean Our nearest cove is one mile from the house - a peaceful walk through rolling meadows and quiet woods. From the beach you can see the Bagaduce River emptying out into the ocean, and the coastal village of Castine, directly across the water.. Our Community Cape Rosier, in Brooksville, is home to the Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park (first class hiking ) and the Good Life Center, established in the 1950's by Helen and Scott Nearing, whose work was a seminal influence on the organic farming movement in the United States. Our next door neighbors, Tinder Hearth Bakery, occupy another dear old farmhouse, a 2 minute walk from here. They bake wood-fired, organic sourdough bread and in summer host a monthly Open Mic which draws all levels of performers from near and far. During the summer months they offer Pizza Nights, when you can socialize with the locals and summer visitors.

Welcome to Treetops where sweeping views of Penobscot Bay, Islesboro and the Camden Hills are perfect for enjoying a seaside vacation! Several woodland trails on property lead right to the ocean. Nearby Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park offers hiking, picnicking and boating. Acadia National Park and Stonington are each about one hour away. Come enjoy the oceanfront, beautiful sunsets, and breathtaking views.
Treetops cottage blends comfort and country luxury with the feel of the by-gone era of rustic summer resorts on the Maine coast. Located in the sleepy hamlet of Harborside, Treetops is situated high on a ledge overlooking Penobscot Bay and the expansive, unspoiled rocky coast of Maine. With its modern amenities and historic feel, Treetops offers all you'd ever need for a relaxing holiday by the sea. Treetops offers three lovely bedrooms (one queen with a twin canopy; one with a double bed), two full baths, you may use the kitchen for breakfast and simple meals. The front porch, with its stunning view and 1930s glider sofa is the perfect place to enjoy gorgeous days and sunsets. The South deck allows you to sit outside and enjoy sun all day long. The oceanfront is lovely, though steep in some places. Sit at the water’s edge on the Adirondack chairs with a view of the Camden Hills. Holbrook Island Sanctuary State Park is less than a half-mile away, with a network of hiking trails, picnic areas, and dock. The Good Life Center and Four Season Organic Farm are just down the road, and Buck's Harbor Market, with its excellent selection of wines, cheeses, fresh food, and basic staples, is about ten minutes' drive. Also nearby is Woodenboat School, Blue Hill's Kneisel Hall (Chamber Music), Stonington Opera House and many restaurants, shops, libraries, and galleries located in Blue Hill, Deer Isle, and Stonington. Acadia National Park and Schoodic Point are about one hour's drive, and there are day trips on the mailboat to Acadia's Isle au Haut, just off the Stonington dock. Policy information: Treetops is our home. We ask that visitors respect our belongings as they would their own. We keep our family bedrooms closed off; we kindly request having guests respect our privacy. Thank you for leaving your room at Treetops as you found it: clean, tidy, dishes washed in the dishwasher, and generally in tip-top shape. We will wash the sheets and towels after you depart. Thank you for your consideration!
Treetops was once part of the Baycrest, a cluster of cottages that thrived as a hotel the 1930s and '40s. Treetops and its guest-cottage mate next door are the inspiration for the script "Gray Ledges," a period drama. Just imagine the intrepid travelers who came here by steamship! You will be amongst the special few who have enjoyed this beautiful spot on the map.

Rusticators and writers discovered Castine years ago -and never left. For GOOD reason. The ocean air cools the nights, birdsong will awaken you. Proximity to everything. Recently constructed Tiny House has everything a family of four, retirees or a newly wed couple could want including gas stove, retro fridge, stain glass windows and comfortable furniture and bedding. Large back & side yards with delightful views. Bath is new. Landscaping aplenty. Big house is adjacent, also avail for rent.
Recently renovated coastal cottage, in historical and hysterical 'downeast' village. This tiny cottage, south-facing, hill-top home, abuts a 155 acre cliff-side wilderness preserve, looks seaward, and at dawn is raucous with all the birdsong; 35 species in the neighborhood! The town of Castine, pop 1,200, is renowned for it's 400 year maritime heritage, including one of the nation's best Maritime Academys. Castine also boasts Inns, pubs, wine/ jazz bars, bakeries, yacht clubs and a nine hole golf course. And after sinning all week one can on escape into one of the six churches, for redemption on Sunday. This Tiny abode sits next to the primary cottage, large. Both are rentals and although close in proximity they each are sited so as to maximize privacy and minimize contact. Everyone is strongly encouraged to be neighborly. There is a shared basement game room with laundry for all. Plenty of parking (assigned for each cottage). Sea-kayaking, sailing, long forest strolls, short bike rides, sunsets at nearby lighthouse, and simply fresh seafood whether prepared at home or at one of the the three great restaurants within walking distance make this vacation rental outstanding. ** Please note during HIGH season: June15-Sept01 all rentals are min seven night weekly. Weekends to weekends. Arrival/ departure days /times are always 4:00pm arrival/ 09:00am departure** Occasionally I can make minor exceptions.
Quiet, super quiet. Only five other homes, and only two rent out in summer. As a result few cars travel up and down this forgotten street; yet we are only minutes to all interests- lighthouse, beaches, restaurants, churches, pubs and woods walks.

The Magical World on the Island of Islesboro, outside your door! The auto ferry, Margaret Chase Smith from Lincolnville takes you across beautiful Penobscot Bay. A stunning location for your waterfront vacation to return to year after year. Make way for the ducks as they waddle up the path from the beach to the neighbors house for breakfast. Tidal beach on the property. Surrounded by nature and birds. A short walk to tennis courts with playground, library and historical society!
The East Bay pops into your cottage from the deck to the living area and bedrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped for real cooking and if you are missing something we may have it at our house. This house is available by the week or month .
We are walking distance to library, tennis courts, playground and public beach (also a small tidal beach at the cottage) The Historical Society has art shows, talks and a fabulous museum and is a 5 minute walk up the hill . The location is ideal. We are close to the road and there is traffic. But considering you are on an island, I don't feel the amount of traffic we have comes even close to what is on the mainland.

Small, quiet cottage on a dead-end road, situated in a large open hay field. Fifteen minutes from Blue Hill and an hour from Acadia park. Public boat launch is two miles away - unless you want to scramble down the bank. There is no TV, but the low traffic road is great for taking walks. I offer a basic internet service.
A newly built house in a quiet neighborhood. Fall asleep under the stars and wake up to the birds singing. This is a beautiful property with apple trees and glimpses of Bagaduce River. There are many outdoor opportunities and hiking trails in the area.
