Joe and his family were really friendly and helpful. It's a great and quite place and still close to hilo. I would recommend a rental car to get to his place and to all the nice other places around hilo. The kitchen and bathroom were nice. Thanks Joe, i would come back!

Joe's place is simple, clean and affordable. You'll definitely need a car to access the sites around but its situated in a very scenic part of the Big Island north of Hilo so there is plenty to access from here.

Joe and Jan were a great host. Extremely helpful and friendly. Location was great.. not far from town and very convenient to visit scenic places.

It's really nice to stay in Joe's house. The kitchen has a fridge, bowls, plates and a microwave, which is pretty good for a single traveler. It's quiet at night as other occupants stay in their own room as well.

I want to be honest.. we spend there one month. The room was nice and clean also kitchen. In the room we just miss little night table because how I said we was spending there one month so we had to have everything on the floor and some little night table will be really nice. The bathroom was ok but dirty all the time, but I guess that wasn't mistake from the owners [but the girl who should care about the house ] because they was gone almost all our vacation and last couple days when they come back they clean it.. And we had big problem with internet. We work online and our priory was have good connection to internet and owner said to us he will do the best to have good connection but this never happened. So we was really disappointed and we spend all our staying figure out how to fix it. For somebody who go just on the vacation and dont need the wireless to much that will be ok...but for us thats was the most important thinks number one! But anyway we make our best to have good time there and there was quiet neighborhood, nice garden, close to botanic garden and around 5 miles close to surf beach.

My husband and I arrived in Hilo late the night we checked in and we were greeted by Joe and shown around (but as it was late it was a quick meet and great.) The entire stay was quiet and we were able to sleep in when we wanted to; which was great. There was some bananas and some old looking fruit in the basket that we ended up throwing away. I was told we would have fruit the next day but the entire stay we only got the bananas (from the first night stay). There was oatmeal and coffee every morning; which I was very thankful for. The place seemed to have not been swept before we got there. The kitchen area, bedroom and bathroom floors were filled with animal hair (which I ended up sweeping up.) The bedroom (besides the floor) seemed to be clean and we had clean linen and we were thankful for the beach towel. The bathroom had looked like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile, however the towels were clean and we had plenty of toilet paper and shower gel, and shampoo. The location was good for us because we went all over the island and it was close enough to Hilo without being too close. :) Overall it provided us with a place to stay. I don't think we would stay here again if we were to come back to Hilo.

They are nice people and treat you as their friend. We talked a lot about our travel experience and they also gave us many suggestion and recommend some scenic places in big island to us. They traveled a lot, so their advice are deserved to take. I felt that they are positive and passionate people , I hope I can have a life like them. By the way, it is my first time to eat breakfast that offered by host. Their breakfast were plentiful and delicious, I ate a lot with a cup of good coffee. All in all, I 100% recommend it, believe me that you will never feel regrettable.

Kelly and Roy are exceptional hosts. My fiance and I stayed at a couple of different Airbnb's around the Big Island, and our stay with them was by far our favorite. Their entire home was CLEAN, nicely decorated, and very comfortable. We especially enjoyed sitting on the porch overlooking the ocean. Breakfast was excellent and very filling! Kelly and Roy gave us plenty of space and privacy while still managing to get to know us and recommend some dinner spots in town. I would 100% recommend booking with them. Thank you!!!

Kelly and Roy’s place is a piece of paradise in paradise . It was one of our most amazing experience of AirBnb, Hosts like this uplift the standards of AirBnb to new heights. They are warm and lovely people to get to know, we stayed for 5 days and it was super hard to leave :(. The place is lovely , serene , just sitting on porch is a bliss. Oh , the yummy breakfast - cereals , eggs, fresh fruit , yogurt and Pancakes . All you need to start an amazing day ! They were very generous - and offered us their snorkeling gear, Life jackets, beach towels and all the amazing TIPS to get the best of the island, that made our vacation memorable. We went to vacation in island and came back having good friends now :), will be definitely visiting again !

Kelly wrote a beautiful note of welcome that was in my room when I arrived - Hawaiian style! When I inquired about places to go for supper, they invited me to go along with them into Hilo - how awesome is that?!!

I had a good stay. The place was as expected. I had no contact with Joe and Jen during my stay, besides checking in. Location is excellent for exploring Hilo side of Island. Kitchen had microwave and fridge, nothing for cooking.

Joe is a super friendly host, he showed us around, introduced us to Donatello (his awesome pet tortoise!) and made us feel welcome. Everything was clean, room had a fan and handy little kitchenette with some great macadamia flavoured coffee. Joe also kindly lent us a surfboard. Located on a quiet road only a couple minutes from great surf beach and close to Hilo.

Joe and Jen were great hosts, and the accommodations wonderful! Perfect jump off point for the "wet" side of the island. Highly recommended!

Perfect Airbnb experience! Thank you Kelly & Roy for this great days in your house. We stayed 5 nights and felt comfortable & welcomed from the very first moment we arrived. We really liked the great hospitality, so that we felt like visiting friends and we are at "home". Everything is fine in the house with a big kitchen, nice veranda and bathroom. The clean and cozy room has a queen size bed & an AC. Every morning you get a perfect breakfast: bread (gluten free if you want), muffins, fresh fruits, yoghurt, cheese, ham, juice, coffee or tea! We liked also the nice conversations with Kelly & Roy. We would definitely come back to this great hosts!!!

Everything was great! The house had absolutely everything you could ever need, the kitchen was fully loaded with every gadget/ tool needed to cook anything. Very comfortable bed- would highly recommend staying here. At times there was dogs barking at night but it was never too bad. Pool was very clean! Double thumbs up for this place!

Randall's place was amazing! Stayed there for 4 days with my family and everyone loved the house. The enclosed porch area is a great spot to eat breakfast and relax. Beds were comfortable and the house is very clean. It's about a 15 minute drive to downtown Hilo. Communication with Randall was great. He was very helpful during our entire stay. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend the house to friends visiting Hilo.

This is a quiet and comfortable place for family vacation. The amenity is very satisfying. We enjoyed the great view from the house. The property manager is warm-hearted and helpful. The house location is close to Akaka State park and Orchid Garden. All of us feel like the stay is way more than worth the money. I cannot think of a downside of this place. I highly recommend it!

My family had a great time in this house and slept wonderfully in the comfortable beds. The house is older with older furnishings, but is very well equipped and extremely clean. The yard is beautiful and it's a treat to have the private pool. The full screened in porch was another favorite to relax enjoying the view and the nature sounds day or night. I would happily return for another stay!

Sun and Orchard is a lovely place to stay. The surroundings are lovely and peaceful, and made for a really restful stay. Hilo town is a pleasant 20 minute drive away, and there are some great places bear by for essentials and food (the Low store and the Shake Shack). It made a great base for exploring the south of the island (we went to Mauna Kea, Volcano National Park and did a helicopter ride over the lava fields). The B and B is furnished to a very high qualilty, with a lovely bathroom. Our hosts were extremely kind and lovely.

Out of the way cottage in a very secluded, beautiful setting. I thoroughly recommend staying here if you are after peace and quiet. Definitely rent a car as transport on the Big Island is not really sufficient for tourists. The Cottage was really well kept and tidy, we found the information booklet was really helpful.

Our stay at the cottage was fantastic. The host was lovely and the apartment is amazing. It was the perfect start for our first trip to Big Island and the ideal location to explore the eastern part of the island. Everything went silky smooth. We would come here again any time.

It's a lot like camping in the jungle, but less in tents. I rented the cheapest rental car possible and had no problem driving to and from in the rain. Host provided beer upon arrival.

Nette Gastgeber, tolles Hotel, tolle Umgebung. Thais und Miguel waren die freundlichsten Gastgeber, warm und freundlich. Thais is an exemplary AirBnB host. She was responsive, incredibly warm, thoughtful, kind & considerate to us throughout our stay. A couple of days before we landed in Hilo, she wrote & gave us an exhaustive list of places & events to see while we were on the Big Island. Thais & her collection of dogs, ducks & cat were at the gate to give us a warm Aloha welcome upon arrival at her sumptuous estate. The facilities were as good as described & even though we had come in right after a hurricane had just passed by & it was hot & humid, Thais made us feel quite comfortable & things soon cooled down. We were not able to spend much time with Thais & her husband Miguel because they left Hilo the day after we got there on a long-planned trip. But Thais left the wonderful & effervescent Mika-san, her house-sitter with whom we bonded instantly, to look after us. Thais also made sure to send us a text at the end of each day to make sure all was well. We totally loved our time at Thais & Miguel's place. It felt like country living with a view of Hilo Bay in the distance. We returned from our various jaunts around the Island to a great place for quiet meditation & reflection, even though it's only a few minutes from downtown Hilo. We highly recommend Thais & Miguel's place for any one seeking a peaceful accommodation surrounded by lots of green space.

This separate apartment was so lovely, we had to drag ourselves away from it! Our hosts were gracious and very helpful with regards to places to go and things to see. We would definitely stay here again.

Great place to stay outside Hilo. Conveniently located a short drive to Hilo, Akaka Falls, and other attractions. The accommodations were comfortable and spacious, as pictured. Thais was extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable and gave us great tips about the area leading up to and during our stay. We really enjoyed being greeted by their dogs, cat, and ducks when we came home each day. We hope to return when we have more time to explore the Hilo side of the island.

This is a spacious, comfortable, and private apartment in a lovely area north of Hilo, but very convenient to town. The setting is lovely! Flowers everywhere, including in the apartment. Even in the shower. The view from the lanai (on the main house, next door) is spectacular. Thais gave generous advice on where to eat, shop, snorkel, and explore, all of which was excellent. We found some local spots we'd never have discovered otherwise. It can get warm at night: you're in a rain forest, which can also entail epic rainfall. Eventually the cool evening breeze does arrive.

Thais and Miguel have excellent accommodations and a great location close to Hilo and other attractions. If you stay here you must check out the Botanical Gardens that are practically right next door, and was one of the highlights of our trip. We appreciated all of Thais' recommendations for things to see and do including: tide pools and hot ponds, a farmer's market, and Uncle Robert's on a Wednesday!! The frogs at night didn't bother me or my girlfriend from falling asleep. It was also enjoyable to listen to the rain at night.

This comfortable and beautiful resting place is located on a spectacularly gorgeous property, within easy driving distance too Hilo town and all the restaurants and amenities that Big Island capital hosts. We woke each morning to the eye popping landscape populated with wandering domesticated chickens, and a panoply of local birds that announce each dawn with a chorus of welcome. The cottage is well appointed with comfortable sleep furnishings, enough kitchenware to cook a meal in and a wonderful shower you will remember when you leave. You will rest and enjoy yourself in this peaceful and esthetic hideaway near the earth, sky and sea.

Everything was great, for camping you couldn't ask for more, but this California girl wasn't used to mud. The people were more than helpful and friendly. Everything was great but next time I would try not to book it in the wettest time of year.

Had a great time, Ray was a great host and we chatted for a long time in the morning over coffee watching the ocean. Loved the outdoor shower and off grid home.

This is the off the path place to be and we hope to make this a family tradition. Being in the nature of Hawaii is why we visited and chose to stay here, singing frogs and geckos made it even better. We loved the cabana and found the hammocks comfy, even when I shared it with my toddler. The host was great and accommodating with a well stocked kitchen for cooking real food while getting the camp experience as outdoor adventurers. It is near enough to everything you need for a wonderful stay while remaining a secluded paradise. I only wish we could have stayed longer, so we will definitely be returning again and again.

If you're looking to try sleeping in a hammock with the natural sounds all around then this is recommended. On arrival we were given everything we needed and enjoyed trying this experience out. We didn't get the sense of much of a community of travellers here - no one hanging around the fire pit - but we may have simply had bad timing for that.

Jane my host was so friendly and the place was exactly as described. The area was so quiet all I could hear were the geckos and crickets. I loved it and have already recommended it to friends.

The cabana was wonderful! The hosts were so accommodating to our needs for things like extra blankets to additional spices for making our dinner on the grill! We loved the atmosphere, and the open shower space!

It seems my previous review didn't post so I'll leave another one! We had a blast hanging out with you guys for the second year in a row! We will be back for round three next year! The kids loved feeding the cows and loving on the cats and dogs! Thank you for taking them out and letting them experience it! We love you all and am already missing the good vibes you all put out there! The cabins were just as clean as last year and we love taking outdoor showers! So relaxing :) We love you all! Staying at Marcus's cabin was truly a magnificent experience. Marcus and Mary Ellen were two of the most gracious hosts anyone could ever ask for, they were very welcoming and both my cabin, kitchen and bathroom were kept at a pristine condition which made my stay even better. I was lucky to have been able to hang with Mary Ellen's daughter Margaret and her fiancé Sean. They prepared an amazing dinner on my last night there that was to die for. They also provided countless tips and recommendations on places explore around the island. I know for a fact that the next time I visit Hawaii I will be staying at one of Marcus's cabin, the location was ideal and easy to find. We had an awesome 3 night stay. Snuggling up in a very comfortable king size bed in an open air cabin. Serenaded to sleep by coqui frogs. Waking to a sunrise over the Pacific Ocean. Hiking down to the onsite waterfall. Eating fresh bananas picked right beside our cabin. Enjoying the fresh air in the outdoor shower. Travelling to amazing sites just a few miles away. Marcus and Shawn were a wealth of knowledge about the island. If you are a timeshare resort kind of traveller, you may want to skip this one. But if you are looking for a tropical outdoor experience with the comforts of home, you need to book this one. If we ever get back to the Big Island, we would definitely stay here again.

I had a really fun time here.It was so beautiful and sometimes very quiet. It was a great trip!

I am so happy with my decision to rent the Old Sugar Mill Plantation. I am an activities coordinator at an International Language school in Waikiki, and this is the first trip I have planned to the BI. In total our group was 22 people and the house was absolutely perfect! I could not have asked for a better location or a more beautiful house. The bedrooms are all so beautiful, the house clean, the 26 acres of land AMAZING! Unfortunately we were so busy we didn't have a whole lot of time to enjoy all of the property, but the waterfall is definitely a bonus. Most times I rent hotel rooms for our groups, but this house was a hit with the students. Everyone enjoyed cooking dinner together in the beautiful kitchen and getting to relax in the peaceful atmosphere. I could go on and on about this place, but ultimately it was the ideal place to bring a group as large as mine. Steve thank you for making us feel at home and being so helpful throughout the whole process! Mahalo! And I am sure you will be seeing us again!

We loved that our large 'ohana could stay at one place to eat, enjoy and sleep comfortably. Beds were very comfortable and it was awesome having a full bathroom in each room. Steve was always available if we had questions or concerns. There were extra linens and towels in the linen closet since there wasn't enough in the bathrooms. We found broken towel bars and a leaking sink (under) but had no problems notifying Steve with these issues. Bring your own beach towels since there's a $40 charged for any bath towels that get soiled by outdoor use or makeup. All in all, beautifully decorated and landscaped home and property. Mahalo Steve!!!

Our hosts were very nice people. They gave us items from their farm such as goat milk for coffee, fresh eggs and sweet pineapple. Their property was very beautiful, especially the view of the flowing stream from the balcony.

This cottage is truly a piece of heaven on earth. The view is breathtaking! Such a perfect place to escape, and relax. It was better than we imagined. Can't wait to come back one day.

The pictures are amazing but they don't do it justice - our jaws hit the floor after opening the door. Stunning view, amazing amenities and great location for day trips to Volcanoes National Park or other destinations. We will remember this place for the rest of our lives.

If you're even considering staying at the cottage, do it now! You will not be disappointed! The view from the cottage is simply stunning. My husband and I really enjoyed eating our breakfast out on the lanai in the morning and watching the whales swim by, and at night we were treated to the most amazing star gazing from the hot tub. The cottage itself is decorated beautifully and the kitchen is very well equipped for cooking. We hope to be back at some point!

We really enjoyed staying in the Onomea Bay Cliffside Cottage. The view was amazing. It was especially nice to watch the sun/moon rise and gaze at the stars from the hot tub. There was also a nice hammock on the porch served as a good place to relax and listen to the ocean. I'd highly recommend this place and would stay here again over any place else on the east side of the island.

The Onomea Bay Cliffside Cottage is a little piece of heaven on the North Shore of the Big Island, just north of Hilo. Amazing area of hiking, waterfalls and vistas, convenient to the restaurant scene in Hilo. This house is a lovely, modern, spacious, and private 1 bedroom house, beautifully appointed and actually we think better than described. We loved using the spa at night as we stargazed and listened to the surf crash below us after a full day of hiking and sightseeing.

Perfect for our honeymoon. Would stay again!

We recently stayed in this beautifully crafted home in the small town of Pepeekeo. Prior to our arrival, the owner provided us with detailed information as to how to get the keys for the property, directions to the property, and what we could expect. We initially tried to use our (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps to get us to the property, which was a total mistake. Please follow the directions that are provided by the owner and you will have an easy time getting to the property. Once we got to subdivision where the property was located, we were greeted by the open ocean off of the Hamakua coast, cows and horses grazing in the grass fields, and peace and quiet. The home is in great condition and exceptionally clean. It is located on three acres of land that is filled with ulu (breadfruit) trees. At night, you will be able to see every star in the sky and sleep in complete silence. The home has a master bedroom on the second floor that has a walk-in closet, double sinks, a shower, and a huge bedroom; the second room is also located on the second floor and has a half-bath included in the room; the third bedroom is located downstairs and has a full bathroom that is adjacent to the bedroom. The kitchen is spacious and is equipped with everything you need to cook. The living room is also spacious and is surrounded by glass windows to allow you to look out into the view. This home is located about 15 minutes from Hilo; 30 minutes from Waipio Valley, Akaka Falls, and Rainbow Falls; an hour from Kalapana and Volcano; and an hour + from Kona. Bottom line, if you are looking for a place to relax in peace and quiet, this is the place to be.
