The Brisbane Central Wharves were resumed by the Government in the 1930s and rebuilt to provide relief work during the depression. They were leased by the Howard Smith shipping company until they moved to Hamilton as the building of the Story Bridge began in 1936. The wharves were largely abandoned from the 1960s and are a rare surviving example of early city infrastructure. The most recent work on the heritage listed site began in 2014 and opened to the public 3 years later. Today it is home to the fabulous Fantauzzo, a boutique Art Series Hotel, Felon’s Brewing Co and Mr Percival’s which is a unique collection of dining options. You can dine and drink just metres from the river and be awed by the spellbinding views!

This compact, low-key hangout offers a unique beer list and live music by emerging and established artists. Earlier in the year we were lucky enough to have Billie Rose and her Mum stay with us, she is one young lady with huge talent! On the to-do list for us is a visit is this exquisite rooftop bar on the 21st floor of the newly opened Hotel Emporium at South Bank. It’s Brisbane’s most luxurious rooftop bar, encased in glass with jaw dropping 180 degree views all the way out to Moreton Island. The walls of greenery add a subtropical vibe. Parks & Nature

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary is genuinely popular with guests who come and stay. I have made several visits to the sanctuary for guests wanting to see Koalas and Kangaroos. "Discover over 100 species of Australian native animals in a beautiful, natural bush setting at the World's first and largest koala sanctuary. Meet a koala, hand-feed kangaroos, marvel at the playful platypus, and enjoy a full daily schedule of keeper talks and activities, including Sheep Dog Show and Wild Lorikeet Feeding. Free WiFi" It is only a 15 minute drive from South Brisbane and there are regular buses operating from the Cultural Centre. A 1 hour ferry trip along the Brisbane River is a lovely alternative.

You’ll find this gem on level 3 of the Town Hall, King George Square in the heart of the city. It will always have an exhibition that is contemporary and illuminating. I particularly enjoyed Mao’s Last Dancer, a portrait of Li Cunxin held in 2018. The first thing to do when you arrive is to book a time for the clock tower tour. Travel in one of Australia’s oldest serviced lifts up to the observation deck and have a unique view out over the city. The Museum is re-opening post COVID-19 on Friday 17 July 2020.
