Cerkno, nature and history
Sightseeing
It was built between 1943 and 1945 and it consists of 14 wooden cabins and several auxiliary facilities. It lies in the narrow and of difficult access Pasice gorge which was formed by the Čerinščica stream.
The Partisan hospital Franja is a cultural monument of national importance and on the waiting list in the UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage, and bears the European Heritage Label.
To get there from our apartment it will take you 5 minutes with tha car or you can walk, about 30 minutes.
Franja Partisan Hospital

It is one of the most important archaeological sites of the Early Stone Age in the world. Above the valley of the Idrijca river, in the rocky slope of the Šebrelje plateau, lies a hidden cave in which bones from different animal types, stone and bone tools, and remains of fire pits from ice-age people were found.
You can take a ride there or walk up from the village Reka (5282 Cerkno).
Divje babe

Porezen is the highest summit of Cerkljansko hribovje (The Cerkno Hills) which affords a view to the Bohinj mountains, Julian Alps, Karavanke, Kamniško Savinjske Alpe (Kamnik-Savinja Alps), Cerkljansko and Škofjeloško hribovje (The Cerkno and Škofja Loka Hills), in the south you can see all the way down to the sea.
There is also a hut (food and drinks).
From our apartment you first need to take a ride to the address: Gorenji Novaki 14b, 5282 Cerkno (take the 6,6 km road) and than your hike will start.

19 PorezenPorezen (1630m)
Porezen is the highest summit of Cerkljansko hribovje (The Cerkno Hills) which affords a view to the Bohinj mountains, Julian Alps, Karavanke, Kamniško Savinjske Alpe (Kamnik-Savinja Alps), Cerkljansko and Škofjeloško hribovje (The Cerkno and Škofja Loka Hills), in the south you can see all the way down to the sea.

Kopa (1360m)
The locals named this high rock “Kapa” or Kopa due to its similarity to charcoal-heaps. Kopa spreads out above the village of Novaki, on the slope of Cimprovka which offers a view to Cerkno and surrounding hills, Trnovski gozd (Trnovo Forest Plateau), in fine weather also all the way to Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe (Kamnik-Savinja Alps).
You can visit Kopa and Porezen in one hike, it is the same starting point.

Blegoš is the highest summit of Škofjeloško hribovje (Škofja Loka Hills) and besides Porezen and Ratitovec one of the “big three” prealpine summits with a magnificent view as to Julijske Alpe as to the surrounding hills.
There is also a hut, closed on Mondays.
From our apartment you first need to take a ride, driving on the way to the Ski Centre Cerkno, than you stop and park your car where the sign for Slugova dolina is, from there on you walk.

Kojca (1303)
Kojca, a mother of Cerkljansko hribovje (The Cerkno Hills), lies south of the Porezen summit. You can enjoy the view of Cerkljansko hribovje (The Cerkno Hills), Porezen, Bohinj mountains, Baška Grapa valley, Črna Prst and all the way to Krn.
First you take a ride to Zakoica, you park your car by the partisan monument. And from there on you walk, the route is marked.
Kojca
Kojca (1303)
Kojca, a mother of Cerkljansko hribovje (The Cerkno Hills), lies south of the Porezen summit. You can enjoy the view of Cerkljansko hribovje (The Cerkno Hills), Porezen, Bohinj mountains, Baška Grapa valley, Črna Prst and all the way to Krn.
First you take a ride to Zakoica, you park your car by the partisan monument. And from there on you walk, the route is marked.
