Tony and Rita Krueger bought The Kenney Store on February 26, 2013 at 10:00 am and opened it up on the same day at 3:00 pm. They jumped in headfirst and have not looked back.
If you are looking for a place to enjoy great food and live music, come on by! With a few restorations our building est. 1887, has come to life once again. Devour in some of our home cooking, always served with sweet southern charm. Drink a few ice cold beers, specialty wines, and signature drinks from our full bar.
The Kenney Store has live music almost every night of the week. Check our calendar for details. If you are lucky, a few well-known singers may stop by dressed with a fiddle or acoustic guitar. On the weekends, we always have a full house including uprising bands, acoustic performances, and local celebrities. Come early and get a good seat. Waltz, two-step, line-dance, swing, or even grind to live music under the neon lights.

Eclectic Small Town Shopping
In 1920, my grandfather and his brother purchased a store in Frelsburg from the Kollman Family who owned it since the Civil War. They had purchased it from Frederick Jurgens who had purchased it in 1850 from Wilhelm Frels who had established the store in the summer of 1841. Just think, that's only 70 years after our country began! So, I guess you could say that there has been a store operating in this spot for over 173 years. We believe that we are the oldest, continuously operating store in Texas. We are very proud of that - it's not an easy task! During that time, we and our forebearers have been providing groceries, animal feeds, hardware and many other products to our friends and neighbors in Frelsburg and nearby areas. Now, since 1997, we have moved into the cyber-world and have begun to offer a number of the products that our friends and neighbors found so useful to our new friends and neighbors all over the world! And apparently our new friends and neighbors are finding those products to be useful. In all our years, we have never experienced the growth that we have experienced during the last few years.

The early settlers were Anglo’s, mainly from the southern states. In the 1840’s and 1850’s, many Germans and Czechs immigrated to Fayette County. Today the County has an estimated population of 21,768.

It was assembled by Houston philanthropist Miss Ima Hogg and then gifted to The University of Texas at Austin in 1967. Located on 225 acres in northern Fayette County, the site also features projects in partnership with the Gideon Lincecum Master Naturalists and the Texas A&M AgriLife program. Winedale’s collections offer a tangible link to the Texas past, capturing the evidence of history through architecture, furnishings, and decorative arts. A variety of public and private educational programs are held at Winedale each year.
