A scenic 20 minute drive from our place will take you to Makara beach on the southwest coast. A strangely wild and remote place for so close to the city. The drive takes you through country roads with views of the ridgeline wind farm. When you arrive at the beach there's a cafe if you'd like to stop for a coffee or a bite to eat and some public toilets. I recommend taking a walk along the path on the left of the beach around the coast and up the hill. On clear days you can get views of the South Island. It's particularly special being up on the cliff when the sun is setting over the South Island.

One of the best views of Wellington (I actually prefer this lookout point over Mount Victoria). This is less-touristy, and the views more spectacular. What's even better is that it's within walking distance of our house. There are actually three lookouts, each a step above the other. There's also a lovely little area with picnic tables— a great lunch spot or place for a glass of early evening rosé. The lookout feeds into walking tracks on the northern walkway (part of the green town belt). There's also a super stunning ridge-line walk towards Wadestown which I highly recommend. You may even discover my favourite pine tree— a secret perch above the city.

The Botanic Gardens are so close to our house! Just a few minutes and you're there. Some lovely walks. In January there are free light shows and concerts on most nights of the week. This is the best way to get into the city if you have time to stroll in. Ask me about where to find the glowworms..

Drinks & Nightlife

My favourite bar with the best cocktails in town and a staff who look after you well. Chill, old-fashioned with an excellent soundtrack. Perfect for a date or a catch-up with a friend. Ask the staff to recommend you a drink, they are always coming up with new concoctions and can style a drink to suit your mood. I recommend a boulevardier cocktail. Enjoy!
