This place is a little hard to find, but well worth it when you do. The food is out of this world, produced by the brilliant Chef Sam. The best meal I've had in my 18 years in Ithaca was at Gola Osteria; it's our favorite place for special celebratory meals.

This place is a crowd-pleaser. The main cafe is located on the busy Rte 13 strip, with indoor and outdoor seating, and options ranging from bagels to salads, sandwiches to hot meals, and diverse drink options. It's also walking distance from Purity Ice Cream and a very short drive from the Ithaca Farmers Market at Steamboat Landing. Ithaca Bakery also has locations at East Hill Plaza (closer to Shelterbelt Farm) and up at the Triphammer Mall in Northeast Ithaca.

This picturesque trail follows Cascadilla Gorge from Collegetown (across the street from Collegetown Bagels), ending downtown just a few blocks from the Commons. On a hot day you can walk in the water, instead of alongside it, and it's a fantastic place to take kids to splash and play in the shallow cascades. The whole trail takes less than a half-hour to walk.

Cascadilla Gorge TrailThis picturesque trail follows Cascadilla Gorge from Collegetown (across the street from Collegetown Bagels), ending downtown just a few blocks from the Commons. On a hot day you can walk in the water, instead of alongside it, and it's a fantastic place to take kids to splash and play in the shallow cascades. The whole trail takes less than a half-hour to walk.
Follow Enfield Falls Road to the Upper entrance to Treman State Park. The gorge loop here offers dramatic views of cliffs and waterfalls, illustrating the point about Ithaca being "gorges."

This park offers a classic Ithaca gorge walk from the upper to lower falls (or vice versa), with stunning views and a series of beautiful falls of all sizes. There is a swimming hole at the bottom of the park with lifeguards on duty.

This is the only cidery on our side of the lake, and their hard cider is fantastic. They grow their own organic apples on site, and have plenty of outdoor space to hang out. They sometimes have live music and food trucks serving dinner. The cidery is also very close to Buttermilk Falls - between the upper and lower falls, actually - so it's a perfect stop after a vigorous hike.

If you're in the area to visit wineries, most likely you'll pick a wine trail on Cayuga or Seneca lake. Six Mile Creek is between our farm and the city of Ithaca, on your way to the wine trails. It's got a beautiful setting with ample outdoor seating, and sometimes has live music.
