From a casual brunch spot to the finest dining restaurant, this foodie hotspot has so many quality eateries, visitors and locals alike are truly spoiled for choice… For A Casual Dinner… Bundits Bundits Leith Well known for their cloud like bao buns, Bundits on Constitution Street do the Chinese bread-like dumpling justice with a whole host of fillings from hash brown, sausage, cheese and fried egg for breakfast through to juicy Korean fried chicken, Asian slaw and kewpie mayo for dinner. They’re very dog friendly, serve lots of great local beers and also pay equal attention to their complementary side plates. Take a bao! For Lunch On The Go… Chums Chums, Leith The revival of the old school caff’ is amongst us and with their no frills offering of pie and beans served in a cardboard container, Chums on Henderson Street are leading the charge. The menu is endearingly simple; choose from a steak, cheese and onion, scotch, haggis and mash, macaroni or vegan pie, with optional beans, or tuck into a bacon roll for breakfast or a rather debaucherous pie on a roll for lunch. It’s all priced between £2 and £5. Those in the know might also swing by for a Fisher & Donaldson fudge doughnut, one of only two places to stock them in Edinburgh. For Wine & More… Toast Toast Billing themselves as Edinburgh’s first wine cafe, Toast on The Shore serve quality predominantly biodynamic, organic and natural wines in a totally relaxed and welcoming environment. There’s food to go with it, or coffee, at all times of the day and friendly service coupled with addictive people watching on Leith Shore makes it easy for ‘nipping in for one’ to turn into whiling away the best part of a day. For Affordable Fine Dining… Borough Borough At Borough, a contemporary Scottish bistro on Henderson Street, Chef Daren has a flare for taking singular ingredients and elevating them to something extraordinary; meanwhile his wife Aleks ensures all guests feel welcome and relaxed in their minimalist dining room. The seasonal menu boasts plenty of unlikely combinations – like lamb carpaccio with artichoke, mint and Kombu or kelp with chocolate and salted caramel – that you just know will be spectacular in the hands of a great chef. Thankfully there’s also a 4-course set menu for £55 to take that difficult decision making out of your hands. This is affordable fine dining that you’ll want a reservation for! For Flexible Fine Dining… Heron Heron Just when we thought The Shore’s fine dining scene couldn’t improve further, Tomas Gormley and Sam Yorke expanded their successful lockdown meal kit business, into Heron. They launched in July 2021, transforming the previously unlucky corner space, overlooking the Shore, into the restaurant everyone wants to dine in. Across an a la carte, tasting and bar menu the dishes ooze elegance and imagination. If you haven’t been already, Heron is a must. For Sit-In Pizza… Pizza Geeks Pizza Geeks Pizza Geeks are mad for Mario, Star Wars, Dr Who and really darn good Neapolitan light blistered dough. If you’re lucky enough to bag a table in ‘The Tardis’ on Commercial Street, you might experience garlic rosemary oil doused Dalek Bread followed by The Chorizard chorizo and black pudding pizza, as well as a cracking pub quiz from 8pm on Tuesdays. For Takeaway Pizza… Razzo Pizza Napoletana Razzo Pizza Edinburgh As there are just three tables, you can sit in at Razzo on Great Junction Street, but you’ll likely have to fight off the rest of Leith. For this reason, we like our Razzo delivered… ideally with a gooey burrata on top. Not only is the authentic Neapolitan pizza exemplary, but the team have also mastered arancini and potato croquettes with smoked provolone, as well as Cannolo Siciliano to finish. For Special Occasions… Restaurant Martin Wishart Restaurant Martin Wishart on The Shore, Leith There are only three Michelin starred restaurants in Edinburgh and Restaurant Martin Wishart received theirs in 2001 and have retained it ever since. At the elegant dining room on The Shore, rich and unctuous French cookery meets only the finest Scottish ingredients; with an unforgettable tasting menu for £115, or £180 with matching wines, this is the place to celebrate a special occasion. For Superlative Seafood… The Ship On The Shore The Ship On The Shore, Leith Fancy whiling away the hours over a Fruits de Mer platter whilst sipping on Champagne? Say no more. The Ship On The Shore pride themselves on fresh, sustainably sourced Scottish seafood, including whole lobsters with thermidor sauce and creamy Creran oysters cooked in tempura. When the sun is beating down and you’ve secured a prime positioned outdoor table, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in the Costa Del Sol. For The Biggest Brunch… Roseleaf Home to one of the best brunches in Edinburgh, Roseleaf is an unassuming bustling family owned pub just off The Shore on Sandport Place. Johnny and Lin delight punters with homely meals and cocktails served in teapots in the evenings, then rustle up a mean veggie or meat-filled full Scottish breakfast (complete with a Bloody Mary) for the morning after. We recommend The Big Yin, pictured. For Proper Steak… Chop House For meat eaters, it’s almost unbeatable having a proper steak butchered, dry-aged and cooked over charcoal perfectly to your liking and Chop House are the masters of that. The Constitution Street restaurant is the first branch of the Chop Houses across Edinburgh, and still very much a go-to of ours, whether that’s for a medium rare 700g chateaubriand to share for dinner or a steak sourdough sandwich at lunch. For A Quality Pub Experience… The Kings Wark The Kings Wark Inside this traditional 15th century, exposed brick pub you can feast on some of the best gastro-pub food in the capital. For us, The Kings Wark take Sunday afternoons to the next level; begin with a creamy oyster carefully balanced on a chili salt rimmed Bloody Mary before tucking into a majestic roast with all the trimmings. Other days at The Kings Wark are exceptional too of course, especially with a menu full of elevated pub favorites: nduja scotch egg, venison burger, confit duck leg and Toulouse sausage cassoulet… gastronomes are in safe hands here. For All Occasions… Ostara Ostara, Leith Just round the corner from The Shore on Coburg Street, Ostara have always centered their offering around seasonal, local ingredients from small Scottish producers, but they’ve also remained bold and experimental. Whilst most Benedicts come with spinach, ham or smoked salmon, for example, Ostara’s is served with cold smoked trout and crowdie or haggis and crispy neeps. We like popping in for the 2 courses for £18.95 lunch menu which features the likes of roast rhubarb and goats cheese followed by grilled hake. But there’s also always a selection of fresh, moist cakes and tray bakes, and a compact curated larder of local gr
