Food Scene
The Blue Spoon is a cafe on the Wisconsin River with gourmet burgers, deli sandwiches, "coffee shop" beverages, great baked cod on a Friday night (not a fryer in the place). The river view on the back patio is beautiful. Gets busy on Friday nights, so go early! Breakfast is also quite good. It's about a 15 minute drive from our house. Within a block of one of the best eagle viewing sites, something Prairie du Sac is famous for."

The Log Tavern has the best pizza in the area hands down, eat in or carry out. It is newly remodeled inside. Very nice bar area. Good sandwiches on the menu as well.

Fitz's is on Lake Wisconsin in the tiny town of Okee. Nice menu variety. Friday night fish fry (go early, especially in the summer!). Well done outdoor seating. Among the very local places along the lake within a few miles, they do the best job.

Green Acres

The Broadway is worth the drive for breakfast, especially if you are visiting the Devil's Lake/Baraboo area. Homemade local everything. High quality ingredients, and big portions. "diner" atmosphere. Small town friendly.

Ishnala is our favorite place for a really nice dinner. It is right near the Wisconsin Dells on Mirror Lake. The site is unique and incredibly beautiful. The food and service are excellent, the view is simply serene. There are two different bar areas, one of which now specializes in small plates. There is access to a couple of the walking trails of Mirror Lake Sate Park from the same parking lot, where you can walk off that great dinner. It is open seasonally, most recently from late May through the end of October.

Parks & Nature
Gibraltar Rock, if you are fit enough to make the climb, provides stunning views of the area. The Ice Age National Scenic Trail can also be accessed from the parking lot.

There is a fee to enter the park if you intend to get out of your car, but it is free to drive through. Traveling between here and there has the additional treat of a ride on the Merrimac ferry as long as Lake Wisconsin is not frozen. The ferry is for cars and it is free.
