Best way to reach Dubrovnik Old City is a boat from Cavtat to the Old Port, directly before the entrance to the main street Stradun.
If you decide to take a bus, you have to get out at a bus stop above Dubrovnik and walk down the stairs to the Old City. Otherwise, the bus will take you to the main bus station in Gruz and you will have to take a local bus to Pile - the bus stop before the entrance to Old City. To come back to Cavtat, you have to take a local bus no. 10.
