We love this cafe for it's honest and delicious meals, including great vegetarian options. Their thing is organic and preservative-free ingredients, and you can tell when you taste it. Even their coffee is organic fair-trade coffee. It has a great vintage cafe feel and the staff are excellent. It's the perfect stop for breakfast or lunch.

A must-do during your stay...do afternoon high tea (7 days) while taking in the breathtaking panoramic view of the Blue Mountains Megalong Valley. The Hydro Majestic has a long rich history and it's recently been impeccably restored, and it's just an amazing place to visit. They also do dinners. We highly recommend a visit and it's best to make a booking. And, it's less than 5 min drive from Blackheath.

Another excellent cafe option on the main strip of Blackheath. They specialise in locally grown seasonal produce and almost everything is made in-house. Coffee is also excellent. They use Campos beans.

From the same owners as The Blackheath General Store & Cafe (also in our guidebook), this traditional Italian restaurant is a definite favourite of ours. They have a great selection of traditional and modern pizzas and pastas. Eat in or take away, but if you're eating in, we recommend making a booking because they are almost always busy - another great sign of how good the food is.

If you're a foodie, this is a must-do while you're in Blackheath, and it's only a short walk from our house! Using local and season produce, they specialize in rustic mountain food prepared in their 120 year-old scotch oven. The place is small, quaint, warm and friendly, and the food and experience is easily the best that Blackheath has to offer. They're open most nights for dinner and, on the weekends, for lunch. Oh, one more thing, we recommend bookings.

Set in the Megalong Valley (go figure!) in the most picturesque setting not far from our house, sits this quaint little rustic establishment that's been going for decades. Open for breakfast and lunch, they serve a good, but rustic, fare with the usual suspects of scones, soups and a decent cafe menu. Good for the whole family. And, most likely you'll experience the black and white cockatoos circling in the valley, while currawongs trill and warble in the surrounding trees.

Parks & Nature

About a 5 minute drive from Mirrabella, we highly recommend checking out the view from Govetts Leap Lookout, which is one of the most famous lookouts in Australia. The magnificent waterfall drops a whopping 180m to the base of the cliff. The ‘ozone-laden’ air of the Blue Mountains was promoted as a health tonic since the early 1800s, and when you get there, you’ll realise why. The following walks all begin at the lookout: Fairfax Heritage walking track, Govetts Leap descent, Pulpit walking track and Cliff Top walking track.

Arresting sandstone walls, ever-present waterfalls and abundant native plants line the awesome Grand Canyon track. The historic loop track takes you into the heart of this World Heritage-listed landscape. It's an intimate and adventurous track which walkers have trodden since 1907. Set out from Evans lookout, the well-shaded track meanders through luscious native vegetation of ferns and golden wattles, and remains close to Greaves Creek, all of which combine to make this a particularly good walk for the summer months. Shorten the loop by leaving a second car at the Evans Lookout Road entrance or spend the day and stop for lunch at the nearby picnic area before returning to the lookout.
