Food scene
If you wanted an authentic Somerset pub, with attitude...this is the place for you! They serve an extensive yet homely menu, manly portions & something for the veggie too.. the chips are the best in the universe! They also do 'visiting' real ales, so always a great choice. the red wine choices are also better than the average pub IMO...very important! You will often find people ask to share your table, which gives you an opportunity to mingle :-)

This can be a treat or just simply a very nice lunch or dinner. The interior is very tasteful, in aubergine & grey, but not snooty at all. The menu is simply great from the simple ploughman's to Guinea fowl. For me of particular interest are the gardens, laid out as veg gardens at the top, herbs at the side, a pergola with large vine over the top as well as a converted livery yard (that is what it feels like :-)) ...very tastefully done. Dress up!

The Devonshire Arms Hotel
This can be a treat or just simply a very nice lunch or dinner. The interior is very tasteful, in aubergine & grey, but not snooty at all. The menu is simply great from the simple ploughman's to Guinea fowl. For me of particular interest are the gardens, laid out as veg gardens at the top, herbs at the side, a pergola with large vine over the top as well as a converted livery yard (that is what it feels like :-)) ...very tastefully done. Dress up!
Our favourite Indian takeaway & Restaurant. You can park outside, they don't serve alcohol, so you can take your own and they don't charge corkage...Marvellous!! Very polite, wonderful food, at a reasonable cost. I recommend the sagwallah chicken balti...gorgeous.
If you decide on a takeaway, just let me know as I will make sure you have cutlery, plates, water etc at the dining room table or outside...Thanks :-)

Sightseeing

Not being a car lover, personally, I would have rather poked my eyes out...But even I was impressed at the hanger of red sports cars. But to the car enthusiast this place is heaven on earth and 15 minutes from us at Moorfields. Not a car lover? Stay at Moorfields with a book :-)
Young Driver Haynes Motor Museum
My apologies to anyone who can take or leave a Classic car here.. this amazing museum takes hours & hours to go around. Not being a car lover, personally, I would have rather poked my eyes out...But even I was impressed at the hanger of red sports cars. But to the car enthusiast this place is heaven on earth and 15 minutes from us at Moorfields. Not a car lover? Stay at Moorfields with a book :-)
My Husband and Dad tell me this is marvellous! Even has a piece of Concorde in there.

Neighbourhoods
Apart from the shops, which are varied, the architecture with the stone houses, is just lovely. There are various shops/cafes of interest 'No 28' a fine end dining restaurant, bakery & wine shop. There is an art gallery in an old church, various semi antique/objects d'art type places, a specialist chocolate shop, fabulous Indian Restaurant (The Spice Gallery..see under food!) little street cafe's..It's just a nice place to while away the hours having a coffee and cake :-) about 10 minutes drive from us.

You simply have to go to Wells, it is about 35 minutes by car & so worth it. Market day is Saturday, it is a real mixture from food stuffs (including a wet fish monger, though he starts at 6am!) to artisan ceramic cups. Wells is steeped in Gothic architecture, walk up the hill, through the gates & you are in another world! Wells Reclamation yard, between Glastonbury & wells is so worth a visit for hours of rummaging around looking for vintage bargains or checking out the Russian rocket launcher..the owner has an eye for wacky stuff! In short, Wells is a treat!

Lyme Regis
We love Lyme Regis, for the following reasons it is the seaside & the wonderful Cobb, which is great to walk along with the sea either side. it is largely unchanged..the large shops are not there, but the tiny cafes are, where you can get breakfast all-day.. Car parking is an issue, there is a park & ride worth taking if you don't want to trek up a hill!
