This is the nearest shop of decent size only a mile away from the estate. Has most things you'd expect but can be a bit expensive so if we're doing a bigger shopping we tend to go to Kirkcudbright which has a Tesco Metro. This is roughly 5 miles away.

Ideal if you want to do a bigger shopping as it's reasonably price and a good size. Has basically everything you would need food and drink wise for your stay.

Entertainment & Activities
For families this place is perfect! This is where they make the amazing Cream O' Galloway ice cream and is a working farm plus activity centre. It has an indoor soft play and cafe/restaurant and outside there are loads of activities to do such as a zip slide, steep drop slide, pedal go-karts, mountain bike track, tree houses and adventure play areas for all ages, a high tower to climb and rope maze. Also you can go on farm tours. Best on dry days but also good to visit on a rainy day. We always buy a year pass for the boys cos they love it so much and it's great value for money!

The beautiful harbour town of Kirkcudbright has for decades been a magnet for painters and artists. Only comparatively recently has it adopted the civic sobriquet of Artists’ Town.
The theme emerged after 2000 when an exhibition, entitled The Homecoming, was held in Kirkcudbright Town Hall to celebrate the renowned Kirkcudbright School of painters.
Between 1880 and 1980 the town attracted many of the country’s leading artists including the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colourists. Their presence established Kirkcudbright as one of only a handful of artists’ colonies in the UK.

Food Scene
Great place to go for lunch or a tea/coffee. A favourite of ours. Excellent food and wonderful selection of cakes, plus they have lots of different flavours of Cream O' Galloway ice cream! Also the WIFI is good here.

Sightseeing
Only 1 mile from the van. A fine example of a Scottish tower-house castle, Cardoness Castle was built in the later 15th century as the fortified residence of the McCullochs. Cardoness Castle is a well-preserved ruin where you can admire the exquisite architectural detail of this still magnificent structure, including the splendid fireplace and wall-cupboard where the family's best silverware was displayed, touch the intricate stone carvings and soak up the superb views over the beautiful Fleet Bay to the Solway Firth beyond. Open summer only

It is attractively situated on the banks of the River Fleet with a long riverside terrace as part of the dog-friendly Mill Café. The exhibitions are spread over 3 floors telling the story of Gatehouse and the surrounding area and includes a temporary exhibition programme, regular events, and local arts and crafts. On the top floor there is a very popular secondhand bookshop. It is also the main tourist information point for Gatehouse. It is a community project run by volunteers
