Sangaste castle and museum - 28km. (German: Schloss Sagnitz) traces its history to at least 1522, when it was part of the estates of the bishop of Tartu. The current building was built in 1879-1883 and designed by architect Otto Pius Hippius. It is built in a neo-Gothic style with influences from Tudor architecture, and considered one of the most impressive examples of Gothic Revival architecture in the Baltic States. Town/city

Tartu - 61km . population of around 100,000 in an area of 154 square kilometres, is the second largest city in Estonia. The first written records of Tartu date from 1030, making it the oldest city in the Baltic States. Tartu has played an important role in the development of Estonian culture and national consciousness: the first national elite stemmed from the local university, the first newspapers and cultural societies, the first national theater – all began their work here, and the first national song festival took place here as well. There is a big museum ERM worth a visit, you’ll get a great overview of Estonias history, also there’s a good foodplace and a design shop with local produce, handcraft and design there.  Old town is wonderful aswell as some cool suburbs like Karlova with cute wooden houses etc. You’ll also find some great food and different events in Tartu.

This adorable little town hidden deep within southern Estonian forests boasts impressive castle ruins, a former home of the ruling Livonian Order. The scenic views of the nearby lake and wooden architecture makes Viljandi a place of interest to both nature and culture lovers.

Nature/hiking

Karula national park - 52km (total area 123 sq. km) is very versatile. In the northern part of the national park prevail semi-natural landscapes which have emerged as a result of millennia of human activity. Here sparsely situated farms alternate with strips of fields, pastures, forests and lakes. It’s a beautiful area with lakes and nice hiking trails well worth seeing.

Paganamaa national park - 80km. Paganamaa Landscape Conservation Area is a nature park which is located in Võru County, Estonia. The area of the nature park is 1030 ha.[2] The protected area was founded in 1979 to protect natural and cultural landscapes in the villages of Paganamaa, Pähni, Tagakolga and Liguri. Beautiful area with walking trails. Especially the viewtower and lake next to it. On the other side on the lake is already Latvia.

Amazing walking trail, only 2km scenic walk away from the house. It's well marked, got information boards and you'll see different landscapes including a like, a river and beautiful pine forest. you'll probably spot some birds and animals too. Highly recommended!

Culture/traditions

Setomaa - 114km. minority group with their own king, dialect, singing style and traditions. Centre of this area is Värska - there is the open air museum and really good mineral water comes from this town. https://www.visitsetomaa.ee/en Also keep an eye on the local events.

The onion road and lake Peipus -  102km. The western coast of Europe’s 4th largest lake is dotted with traditional culture, scenic country roads and is an especially rewarding destination for those who enjoy fishing on ice and water. Natural and ethnic landscape of Peipsimaa area is as diverse and nuanced as Estonian history. Here you’ll find aristocratic mansions, lighthouses, traditional market culture and colourful cottages marking the onion route. Peipsi area is home to Old Believers, a traditional religious minority recognised as hard-working and skillful fishermen, builders and keen onion cultivators.  Varnja Village- has a traditional Old belivers food Fish and onion restaurant.
