Hengistbury Head is a headland jutting into the English Channel between Bournemouth and Mudeford. It is a site of international importance in terms of its archaeology and is scheduled as a nature reserve. It’s surroundings form part of Christchurch Harbour site of scientific interest. It’s also an area of special conservation and there are wonderful walks and a lovely beach to explore as well as some monuments to see.

Located in the Isle of Purbeck, the rebuilt Swanage Railway is the perfect place to enjoy a great family day out on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast.
The heritage railway attraction operates full-size steam and diesel passenger trains along the five and a half miles of line from Norden to Corfe Castle and down to the Victoria seaside town of Swanage.
The line has stations at Corfe Castle and Harman’s Cross as well as a halt at Herston, on the outskirts of Swanage. There are refreshment buffets at Norden and Swanage stations with picnic tables at most of the stations so you can soak up the atmosphere while enjoying a picnic.

Places to go
A visit to Brownsea island from the ferry at Poole is such a wonderful way to explore the nature and sea around the area. You can pre book your trip or queue on the day with the last ferry leaving at 3pm to see the island. It’s owned by the national trust so there are some trips that allow you to land on the island and others that you can sail around and see other sights like Old Harrys Rock
It’s a lovely area to visit and take a boat trip on a fine day
