Hippest, yet the best little brewery in town. And it's right in the neighborhood. Lucky us. Beers tend to land in the super crafty IPA and Sour categories, with lots of adventurous choices. The food is incredible for a bar. Relatively small menu, but every bit yum. Lots of Korean inspired flavors. Lots of spice, when you want it. Can be very crowded, but the family style seating usually lends itself to finding something relatively easily.

HOMES Brewery

Really great bowls, salads and such. The sauces are really flavorful. Just updated interior is really lovely. And plenty of outdoor seating as well. Super close by makes it easily walkable.

This vibrant market is packed with seasonal harvests from the local farms, and the usual additional fare (kombucha, pastry and bread, Roos Roast Coffee!, crafts...) Wednesday market as well, in season.
New to me, but destined to be a new favorite. Flavorful and beautiful. Part of an increasingly interesting and delicious campus of food related establishments including York and Ricewood. Across town in the "SoPac" (South Packard area). Maybe 10-15 from the house.

Grocery
The mid sized, westside alternative to Whole Foods. Friendly folk. All the basics, with a healthy and local/seasonal leaning. I shop here al lot! 5 minute drive, with lots of other shopping and dining options nearby.

Clubs
One of the top craft cocktail bars in Ann Arbor. (when I manage to get out to a club!) I go for the music on Thursday nights. Always the same house band, they are consummate musicians from various other music projects and talents. Piano, drum, bass, trumpet (I think I am missing someone!) Lowdown jazzy vibe. Fun sly covers of pop tunes. Mostly instrumental, but when they sing, it is a boisterous, bar room chorus that brings down the house. Aww.

Quite a few screens now with the original huge main theater, two more in back, and several down the street at the (sister) State Theater. Worth the price of admission just to see the way we use to build movie theaters!

Worth the price of admission just to see the way we use to build movie theaters!
Ypsilanti
Chicken shack meets chef's recipe flavors. Ma Lou's is worth the drive, for the OG or banh mi sandwich (my way: thigh vs. breast, medium vs. AF on the heat)... and so much more.

Bold move in my opinion to open an upscale, chef driven restaurant around the corner from the strip club, during Covid, in the town that continually struggles to find its feet. Ypsilanti has been poised to be Ann Arbor's Brooklyn for years. Lord knows that almost anything non chain/corporate is getting priced out in Ann Arbor. Bellflower might just be one of the stepping stones to an Ypsi revival. Beautiful interior and outdoor dining area. Split menu/concept with a more traditional sit down menu in back and sandwich shop up front. The sandwiches are my favorite so far, packed with fish or shrimp or... And ready to drip down to your elbow if you let them.

Not exactly sure why you would need a hardware store on your trip, but I can not write a collection of Ann Arbor recommendations without mentioning the crew at Stadium Hardware. I have seen them through generations of staff at this point. And they remain the antithesis of the big-box impersonal. Massive selection of all the 'right' hardware items with an (at times) sardonic, yet friendly and immensely knowledgeable staff.
