Enjoying the Outdoors
Skyline Park for sure! Beautiful hiking trails, all levels (one trail my brother's wheelchair can handle) 10 minutes north of the house just make a left and a right and go until the road ends. No park fees (as of 10/22). GORGEOUS views there! Don’t miss it. Great for star gazing.
I love mountain biking and this is the closest place for that.
There are 2 parking levels, so when you drive in, the first on teh right is not the top. Go all the way up, the road will circle back around. There are picnic table up there, some camping spaces and RV room.

We checked the website but there wasn't an indication of this event. Also, their hours were kind of odd for a Saturday, so you absolutely need to check their website before you go.
So bring your kayak/paddleboard/boat because we have plenty of room for them on the property. Ask about the garage availability if you want yours indoors.

Don’t miss shopping at Screws and Sparkles downtown! This place is THE best store here, it features local handmade and vintage items. It’s been on the news! City/town information
90 minutes west of this house, Quartzite may not be much to look at, but there are SEVERAL locally owned and run shops and outdoor markets FILLED with rocks and gems. If you also love rocks and gems, load everyone in the car it is worth the drive. You'll find some bargains if you ask. The yard shops will haggle with you.
Check the Quartzite town calendar online because in the spring they are known to have major gatherings for rock and gem shopping.

PRO TIP: When you return, go through Wickenburg!!! The I17 is a nightmare over the weekend getting back through Phoenix with everyone else who went to Sedona or Flagstaff. But you can take the back highway and it will put you here without the stress of the traffic. It takes about 10 minutes longer and cost you so much less stress.

You can get there in 90 minutes from the house and it is a beautiful, beautiful drive. Shop the main drag, or do the outdoors things. There something for everyone there.
PRO TIP: When you return, go through Wickenburg!!! The I17 is a nightmare over the weekend getting back through Phoenix with everyone else who went to Sedona or Flagstaff. But you can take the back highway and it will put you here without the stress of the traffic. It takes about 10 minutes longer and cost you so much less stress.

They have a fully staffed genealogy library and they will help you FIND YOUR ANCESTORS IN MINUTES! You'll learn about local Mesa AZ history, and about some of the "Mormon Pioneers" who helped carve out the southwestern United States. Then go to the corner and there is a yummy ice cream shop at the end of the Deseret Bookstore. Downtown Mesa is quite interesting.
The Phoenix LDS temple is the closest of the 3 in the area but not by much. Gilbert Temple is about the same distance away from the house. Gilbert is huge and by a lot of shopping, including Costco. Phoenix is small and cozy. Either way, you'll feel closer to God and glad you went.
