Sightseeing

A must do when visiting Magnetic Island is go on a boat trip with local legend Drue! “If you do what you love, you don’t work a day in your life” … and time and time again, this is the awesome vibe I get from Drue You can choose between a day tour or a sunset tour. Just give him a ring to check availability Depending on the tour he will be able to take you around the island, share all his local knowledge with you, he’ll take you out snorkelling 🤿, calls in the eagles sometimes 🦅 and of course! He’ll throw out a fishing line to catch the biggest fish you can possibly imagine. Enjoy, Island Time, with Drue - and with us :-)

The Forts is the all-time recommendation - a must do! - before you leave Maggie. The Forts car park has recently been updated and a new toilet block has been added, to cater to the numerous visitors from all over the world. There is also a water tank about 5-10mins away from the start of the track, for you to refill your reusable water bottle or have a sip from the tap. We always advise guests to do this walk for sunset time, this way • it is less warm to do the walk, as it starts cooling down , compared to the daytime when it is super hot, • koalas will be more active, as they are nocturnal animals, • you can enjoy a 360 degree sunset-view on top of the old Forts building ! Make sure your phone is charged so you can take plenty of pictures of the koalas and the beautiful scenery. You can also use the flashlight on your phone, when it gets dark on the way back down the hill. The walk itself takes about 1hr30 return About 45mins up the hill and 30mins to walk back. However, there are quite a few sidetracks, where you can for example, see the old gun emplacement, the womens latrine, ... and you will most likely also spot a few koalas on the way so make sure you leave early enough so you don’t miss out on the sunset ! Hot Tip! If you are not driving, it is always a good idea to check the bus times to make sure you didn’t just miss a bus passing by and have to wait another half an hour for the next one to show up

Geoffrey Bay is known as one of the snorkel hotspots. While snorkelling towards the Moltke shipwreck, you will see an abundance of marine life 🐠 🤿 🐟 🐚 Please be aware jellyfish season officially starts from November until May, however there has been a time where they came 2 weeks earlier! Therefore, we would recommend you to wear stinger suits from mid October onwards. If you rather stay on land, you can always go visit the rock wallabies! There is a tiny car park where the old ferry terminal used to be, where you will find plenty of boulders/rock formations. These little creatures live in the rocks and always love to get treats, such as carrots 🥕 and sweet potatoes 🍠 Sometimes you can see momma carrying a Joey too! Super cool! 🦘

Selina

Koalas, Yoga and Live Music
Selina is only a 5min walk away from the Horseshoe Bay beachfront and about 15mins away, from the property. They do have a little, free car park if you really did want to take the car. Selina has a koala sanctuary on-site and offers guided tours with a local ranger. Unfortunately they are unable to offer these tours for free nor can you visit by “just walking in by yourself” as there is quite a bit of animal handling involved. These tours have the intention of educating people about our local wildlife, as most of the animals are either bred in captivity or unable to survive in the wild by themselves. Selina is also one of the hotspots in Horseshoe Bay on the weekends, as they (mostly) have live music on Saturday evenings Happy hour is daily from 4-7pm And there is a wild, free bird feeding, daily at 4.15pm (long sleeves recommended!) Definitely go check it out!

Public Transport

Welcome to Maggie! As soon as you get off the ferry, there will usually be a bus waiting that will make its way over to Horseshoe Bay. The bus will be your most economic way of travelling around. If you plan on doing more than 2 bus trips, make sure to ask for an “all day bus pass” Buses are only available until about 10pm on weekdays. During the weekends, the last bus is at 11.40pm. Taxis are not always very reliable so book in early as they’re only available until midnight so make sure you don’t miss it! No ferries from Maggie to TSV between 11.40am and 1pm ⛴️

Phone coverage & wifi

Magnetic Island is too beautiful to be sitting inside all day! But … at certain times, it can be very humid, hot and it’s just nice to put a movie on and chill. Sometimes people will also need to work away from home, we get it… Or.. if you’re an influencer … don’t forget about us 😋 For everyone’s convenience, our property has Starlink installed, so you are all good to go ! (as long as there are no power outages, of course!) Please keep in mind that VODAFONE phone coverage is pretty much “non existent” on Magnetic Island. Telstra and Optus are currently also not living up to the expectations.

FOOD - Everything is on island time!

Make sure you have dinner early! Most restaurants on the island close their kitchens at 8pm (Arcadia Village Hotel sometimes does pizzas until 10pm) Your very last option to get some food would be IGA, they close at 8.30pm.
