Kek Lok Si used to be the icon of Penang pre- wall murals and heritage days. It is even more expansive than before. Great place for photography and burning incest for prayers is allowed immediately outside the temple halls. It is amazing observing the locals pray fervently with such sincerity.

Take Bus 101 from Jetty all the way to the National Reserve. It is the smallest reserve you can find but still no easy feat. The trails are friendly and easy to moderate climb. Certain part maybe challenging if you are heading to Pantai Kerachut. The easiest walk is the 15-minute stroll west to Teluk Tukun beach where Sungai Tukun flows into the ocean. Just relax or lay on the beach or pick shells. Goes further up the river and you get fresh water man-made pond to dip in. Remember to bring plenty of fresh water and some dry food to munch on. Tracking can make one hungry fast. https://www.lonelyplanet.com/malaysia/teluk-bahang/attractions/penang-national-park/a/poi-sig/1218854/1322048

Food Scene

In a relatively new foodcourt, Shariff set up another branch here. The queue builds up not long after it opens in the evening but the good news is it is never too long a wait. Not only is Shariff nasi kandar (a fusion of malay and indian muslim cuisine) yummy, it is about the most reasonably priced when it comes to nasi kandar....

A great variety of Malay delights and local delights along the street in the morning and even more in the evening. There is this best roti canai by the road side street vendor (Lyana Roti Canai) ...Roti canai also kneaded by Malay lady boss. And it goes with the best dipping sauce in town.

One of the most vibrant place in Georgetown is the Chowrasta market. It starts early in the morning around 6.30am, and usually ends ~ 11am. Chowrasta has two markets, one in the market building itself, the other the open markets by the streets. There are also plenty of coffee shops and an open foodcourt to have Penang breakfast.

This place serves great chinese dishes and fusion. You will need to wait in a queue though, as this place got 5* on TripAdvisor for a good many years. If you have a crowd, then you can then order more dishes. In Penang, the chinese food has influce from Malay, Indian and even Thai. So you can't quite get the Penang chinese food anywhere else.

It has a Art gallery, a cafe that opens all day long, a wine cellar, a fine dining session, and garden session, the end a pub and live band...definitely a place to chill out and catch up with local arts and heritage events here. A good place to take your brunch or just tea.
