A lovely walk across the Stone Arch Bridge (45 minutes one way from my house) will get you to the world renowned Guthrie theater - known for both its architecture and its plays.

To get a good feel for why Minneapolis is located where it is (on a river with a waterfall), and to better understand who was living here, and who arrived, stop by this museum. It is right next to the Guthrie, and on the north side of downtown, so you can combine it with a larger tour.

Parks & Nature
There are river edge roads on both the east and west sides of the Mississippi. Each road has a corresponding bike and walking path, with regular overviews of the river. The closest access to the Mississippi from my house is to go to the Stone Arch Bridge, which is a pedestrian and bike only bridge (former railroad bridge).

Getting Around
There is a Nice Bike rack about three blocks from my place - on 15th Ave right next to Van Cleve Park. The bikes are available from April to October of each year, and are a great way to see the city at a sane pace.
