The Shankaracharya Temple is also known as the Jyesteshwara temple or Pas-Pahar by Buddhists. It is on top of the Shankaracharya Hill (also called Hill of Solomon) on the Zabarwan Mountain in Srinagar. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva (Shri Shiv Ji). The temple is at a height of 1,000 feet (300 m) above the plain and overlooks the city of Srinagar.

Shankaracharya Temple was built around 200 BC by Jaluka, the son of Emperor Ashoka. Nestled at an elevation of 1100 feet the temple has the most tranquil atmosphere that fills one with great peace of mind. Since 243 steps have to be climbed to reach the famous sacred site in Srinagar, it is advised to wear comfortable footwear and carry water along. Timings: 7:00 am – 8:00 pm, all days of the week
