Part of this Marché Saint-Honoré restaurant is a speakeasy decked out in full 1920s decor. Every Wednesday, the space turns into a popular open stage for local cabaret artists, hosted by American artist Brian Scott Bagley and a group of musicians who manage to get everyone singing and dancing. It’s an unforgettable Paris experience. Book ahead! Their seductively named cocktails—my favorite, the bisous bisous.

This place is a voyage of the senses. Located upstairs from a Peruvian restaurant on avenue Montaigne, the decor is Latin-inspired with big wraparound banquettes that give you a sense of privacy. Performances are classic cabaret, with dancers, acrobats, transvestites, and audience participation. You’ll definitely need a reservation. The kitchen is headed up by Peruvian chef and cookbook author Gastón Acurio, who emphasizes sustainably sourced fish. You’ve got to have the ceviche.

Le Lido dazzles you with elaborate set changes, video projections, and dancers who descend from dizzyingly high staircases. Located on the iconic avenue des Champs-Élysées, the show pulls out all the stops, mixing dance, music, magic, and over-the-top costumes. And somehow it all comes together. Do yourself a favor and arrive by taxi along the Champs-Élysées, passing first in front of the Eiffel Tower and the Place du Trocadéro. It’s the perfect romantic experience to pair with a night of cabaret.

The most famous of Paris’s glamorous cabarets, Crazy Horse has kept its decor intact since it opened in 1951. The stage welcomes the city’s most beautiful—and shapely—dancers, who mix traditional cabaret choreography and striptease. I love the light show here, founder Alain Bernadin’s signature, which enhances the bodies of the dancers. To the left of the stage, see the names of the most famous dancers to have performed at the club since it opened. Names like Tchi-Tchi Citronnade, Loulou de Paris, and Starlette O’Ara.

Just off the Champs-Élysées, this former Russian cabaret held on to its baroque decor: gilded banquettes, walls draped in velvet, ornate chandeliers, and alcoves. These days it attracts a young, moneyed crowd who come to drink cocktails and Champagne and dance. It’s both a cabaret, where Dita Von Teese has performed, and a club with burlesque shows. This is one of the most exclusive clubs in the capital, so you’ll want to dress the part. It’s not a sneakers and jeans kind of place.

The stage at this Pigalle cabaret club, one of the oldest in the city, is the dream of all burlesque performers. I love how the small, round tables drape around the stage. The space is calm and elegant and has a real monumental presence. Feel free to clap along; audience participation is encouraged. Ask for a spot around the pit for the best overall view of the theater and the stage.

It’s all about passion at Moulin Rouge, the city’s most celebrated cabaret. From the moment you enter, you’ll be charmed by its imposing decor and enormous show space. More than 80 world-class artists, outfitted in feathers and sequins, take you on a journey through classic French cabarets. And, of course, you can expect the French cancan. You can have a full dinner during the show or just order a drink. Make a reservation either way—the place gets packed.
