For those looking for a distinctively refined First-Republic Prague atmosphere. With a Neo-Renaissance ceiling dating back to the late 19th century, this café boasts a true First Czechoslovakian Republic atmosphere. You'll also find that the menu is truly evocative of these bygone years with wonderful Schnitzels and succulent Sachertorte.

For people enamored with great pilsner. Arguably the best beer in the world, served by people who know how to do it in the best possible way. A fantastic and typical Czech Pub atmosphere, renowned for its world-class beer and simple Czech cooking. Oddly enough, extremely popular with both locals and tourists. Crowded but completely worth it.

Google tells you this: "Mirrored dining room for Czech or international dishes with live piano music each evening." The real story: Café Slavia opened in 1884 and has always been associated with Prague's dissident community, especially between 1948 and 1989. Patrons included Vaclav Havel, poet Jiří Kolář, and a number of other famous writers, artists and intellectuals including my dad, the illustrator and painter, Vladimír Fuka. A unique old-world charm and atmosphere, perfect for tea time, located across Legií Bridge at the corner of Smetana embankment and Národní.

Great Pilsner Urquell and good food to accompany the beer. It has a very pleasant atmosphere and it is non-smoking! In Prague is is still permitted to smoke in restaurants, but do not worry, it is quickly changing. Starting the end of May 2017, you will be able to enjoy any café or restaurant in Prague without the unpleasant smell of cigarette smoke.

This restaurant used to be my mom's favorite hang out. It serves Czech cuisine at its best. We especially like the traditional Svícková and a Duck with dumplings and Czech sauerkraut. In season, you can also enjoy wild game dishes.

If the Czech food does not satisfy your tastebuds, try Noi, my favorite Thai cuisine, just around the corner from the apartment. You can also call and order a takeout (see the menu on their website). You'll be able to enjoy it at home or as a picnic in Petrinské Sady. Sometimes it gets really busy in the evenings, so don't forget to reserve your table.

An historic bridge that crosses the Vltava River, Charles Bridge was built as a bow bridge with 16 arches shielded by ice guards, following the example of the Stone Bridge in Regensburg. The Old Town Bridge Tower is often considered to be one of the most astonishing civil gothic-style buildings in the world. The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 statues and statuaries, most of them baroque-style, originally erected around 1700. In order to avoid the crowds, try and hit the bridge during off-season or super early in the morning or late at night.

It is said that the body of Golem (created by Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel) lies in the attic where the genizah of Prague's community is kept. The uniquely beautiful Old New Synagogue or Altneuschul situated in Josefov, is Europe's oldest active synagogue, and is also the oldest surviving medieval synagogue of twin-nave gothic design.

Prague off the beaten path. Nový Svět (which translates as “The New World”), is a wonderfully picturesque part of the Castle district that is generally neglected by most tourists, and secretly loved by locals. Dating back to the 14th Century, it is a small area consisting of just a few streets that have retained the atmosphere of a small village. If you want quiet far from the crowds, this is where you’ll find it.

Whether you're there late at night or in the middle of the day, whether it snows and you're enjoying a mulled wine at the Christmas Market, or it's a balmy summer night and you're gazing at the beauty of the place, Staromak (like the locals call their beloved square) is THE iconic center of Prague. Enjoy the timeless Orloj scenery at one of the cafés with a Turkish Coffee in hand, visit Franz Kafka's house, or stroll down Pařížská with its famed luxury boutique stores - there's always something to do at Staromak.

The hill, almost completely surrounded by the medieval Hunger Wall, is a favorite recreational area for the inhabitants of Prague. Also know as Laurenziberg in German, the hill is featured prominently in Franz Kafka's early short story "Description of a Struggle" and in Milan Kundera's famous novel The Unbearable Lightness of Being. Gateway to the Strahov Monastery and Loretánské Square, and with views on the Vltava River, the Old Town, Charles Bridge, Mala Strana and Prague Castle, you will enjoy some of the most memorable sightseeing you'll ever come to witness. If you're not in the mood for a hike, the summit is linked to Ujezd and Prague's Malá Strana district by the Petřín funicular.

One of the things that make Prague so great are the hills that surround the centre. It's an easy walk from the Castle (20 min.) to the Metronome (the red needle). Up there, you'll enjoy great views of the river bend with Charles Bridge, Mala Strana and the Old Town.

Prague's "Central Park" and a real locals-only favorite. A tad more crowded on weekends, Stromovka is the city's largest park and has a lot to offer. Perfectly flat and wide paths are ideal for biking, rollerblading, skateboarding, running or a plain walk around the neighborhood. Picnics, Frisbee, and Grilling are also high on the list of priorities here, but it's the little baroque entrance gate on Gotthardská that has made the most long lasting impression on me. Fairgrounds await near the main park entrance on U Výstaviště, and Hockey's never too far in Prague with Tipsport Arena around the corner. Tram line 20 will get you there from Hellichova.

Museum Kampa is a modern art gallery in Prague, showing Central European, and in particular Czech work. It has an interesting collection of Kupka's paintings. The museum opened in 2003 and is housed in the Sova's Mills on the eastern bank of the Kampa Island on the Vltava River. There is a large sculpture of a chair by Magdalena Jetelová outside the museum, which is a prominent landmark visible from across the Vltava.
