Speedwell Cottage

A beautiful, 300 year old thatch, Speedwell Cottage is bursting with charm and character – there are exposed beams throughout (beware of some low ones upstairs), and don’t expect the original cob walls to be smooth and straight! The cottage has its own private parking space and there’s plenty more parking available all around the village, including a free village car park just 2 minutes walk away where you also find an EV charge point. There's an enclosed south-facing sunny garden with a Weber gas BBQ and a large table and 8 chairs, so there’s plenty of space to eat in comfort, or just enjoy a drink in the sun. There’s also an outside tap and washing line to hose-down and hang wetsuits after surfing. At the end of the garden is the Cabin, a wooden summerhouse with a 6 seat corner sofa, TV (Netflix, Amazon Prime etc), a DVD player and it's own fast Wifi network, and a large desk for work for anyone who needs to work whilst away. The brand new (2022) and well-equipped kitchen has seating for 8 people, and the cosy sitting room has a large wood-burning stove, a new smart TV, fast Wifi and plenty of board games, cards and puzzles for quieter moments. A perfect holiday home for families, you’ll find thoughtful additions such as a travel cot, highchair, plastic plates/bowls/cups for small children, a non-slip baby/toddler bath mat, a stairgate and a coolbag and ice blocks for picnics on the beach. Accommodation: Ground floor: The back door leads straight into the kitchen from the parking area. The kitchen has Silestone quartz worktops, a new electric fan oven and induction hob, table and seating for 8, Nespresso coffee machine, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and new double-door fridge-freezer. Another door from the kitchen leads to the porch with a wellie boot rack, then into the garden. The sitting room has two sofas and an armchair, French doors to the garden and a wood-burning stove. Beyond the sitting room is the downstairs bedroom, with two single beds. Also on the ground floor is a walk-in, fully tiled wet room with shower, basin and loo, making the cottage accessible for guests who’d rather not climb stairs. First floor: The stairs lead from the sitting room up to the light and spacious landing off which is the master bedroom with a superking-sized bed (6’wide), wardrobe and chest of drawers (hairdryer provided). The family bathroom has a double-ended roll-top bath, heated towel rail, basin and loo. Along the corridor there are two more bedrooms, one has a 4’6” double bed, a wardrobe and a wall-mounted TV and the other has full-size bunk beds and a chest of drawers. At the end of the corridor is a separate loo with washbasin. All the bedrooms are south-facing and overlook the sunny garden. All the beds have supersoft anti-allergy duvets from The White Company, and the bedlinen and bath towels are provided. The magnificent Putsborough beach is just 5 minutes by car, Croyde is 2 miles away, Saunton and Woolacombe beaches are all nearby as is The Southwest Coast Path.
