1880s Miner’s Cottage in Moonta Mines – Heritage

Step back in time at this 1880s miner’s cottage in historic Moonta Mines. Built over 140 years ago and extended in the early 1900s by the man who built many Yorke Peninsula roads, it still features the dining room, kitchen and bathroom he added. Stables by the Vines

In 1856, an English stonemason, Thompson Priest, began mining slate in Mintaro. At the same time, he built a home with stables at the rear of his property. Over the intervening years, the stables fell into a desperate state, however, recently, the Stable has returned to life through a sensitive restoration and refurbishment. Set on the edge of Reillys Winery, the Stable is a 100m walk through the vines to the cellar door and further 20 metres to the renowned Magpie Stump Hotel.
