The island of Despotiko is one worth exploring on your adventure to Antiparos.it can be reached by tour boat from Antiparos/Paros and is very popular for its exotic beaches and calm ambiance.
The islet Despotiko, a stone's throw from Antiparos, opposite Agios Georgios, is uninhabited. During 1957, excavations brought to light a Doric Archaic temple of Apollo. For more than 20 years now, new excavations that are still been held, keep bringing to light very significant findings and artifacts. Archaeologists believe that the sanctuary of Apollo on Despotiko was been built by the Parians and that, possibly, was larger than the well known one on Delos! If visiting Antiparos, it is very easy to visit Despotiko as well, since small boats from Agios Georgios can help you reach the small harbour of Despotiko in just 5 minutes. Thus, you will have the opportunity to admire its open-air museum and enjoy some of its many wonderful sandy beaches. It is recommended to visit during the evening, since the sun sets right before your eyes giving it a magical atmosphere.

Despotiko is one of the lesser-known archaeological sites in Greece - with its recently discovered archaeological site including a large sanctuary of Apollo.
