This quaint little space in historic West Village mimics the taste and nostalgia of the South while at the same time providing an amazing amount of nutrition with an entirely vegan menu. It’s owned by two black women—Kirsten Ussery and Erika Boyd—who decorated with romanticized portraits of Detroit street signs and famous icons from the city. The real kicker is the seitan pepper steak—it’s served over brown rice, and the texture of whatever vegetarian product they use to make the steak is so identifiable that it would fool even the most serious carnivore.

Sadly, the spot’s original West Village location shuttered, but the Grandmont-Rosedale outpost remains open on Fridays and Saturdays. Orders can be placed online for pickup or delivery. Come May 1, the restaurant will also open for Sunday brunch.

This vegan friendly healthy comfort food will surely knock your socks off. You'll questions yourself after every bite if it's meat or not. Guarantee you it is not. Their moth watering BBQ tofu burger with a side of sweet potatoes and salad is our favorite. Call and reserve a seat if you plan to dine here between 2 and 7 p.m. This fun eatery stays busy for a delicious reason.
