Church of St. Augustine is the oldest church in Montepulciano built in the late 13 century As you enter there is a beautiful high relief above the entrance representing the Madonna with St. John the Baptist and St. Augustine. The high relief was created in terracotta by Michelozzo. This church is located in the very small Piazza Michelozzo which is a nice rest stop on the very steep walk up through Montepulciano along the main street, the Via do Gracciano nel Corso. The church is believed to have been completed by 1285 but largely rebuilt in the 15th century.
