Snowshoeing There are some wonderful places to go snowshoeing in the Sierras. Our favorite area is called chickadee ridge. It’s named after the tiny birds whose call sounds roughly like “cheeeeese buuuur-ger.” If you bring some bird seed or nuts with you these fearless little guys will land right on your hand to eat them. This route is also a favorite of ours because the climb up is mild and on a clear day you are rewarded with and excellent view of Lake Tahoe at the top.

A year-round easy to moderate hike. It is especially good with children because the birds will land and eat walnuts out of your hand. Head up NV Hwy 431 taking time to enjoy the scenic lookout too then park along the large meadows. Walk along the tree line and you’ll see the trail.

A field just off of Mt Rose Highway- may require snow shoeing in certain conditions. If you want to feel like a Disney Princess, bring birdseed, then lift your hand up. Note: the birds prefer the black shelled seeds.

If you visit in winter, you can come here to sled, snowshoe, and - the coolest - to feed the chickadees! Bring unsalted sunflower seeds, wander through the woods, and the birds will come right down and land on your hands!
