This is the country’s prime wildlife reserve and is home to the endangered manatee and the red howler monkey as well as the rare white faced capuchin monkeys. In addition, the remains of a bush camp still exists on Bush Bush island where mosquitos were collected by the Trinidad Virus Research Laboratory for their studies in yellow fever and other mosquito borne diseases, circa 1950s. We recommend taking a tour to visit as the swamp can be approached either on foot or in a kayak – 1 hour 50 minute (75.8 km) drive from Green Space.

Located beside Manzanilla beach on the east coast, this is Trinidad’s largest freshwater wetlands and is protected. Home to red howler monkeys, anacondas, caiman, ocelot and the West Indian manatee among the more common parrots, macaws, butterflies and insects, this is a great place for a nature tour. A guide is necessary.
